Will soaps end up on Netflix?

I can't imagine anything they put out between 6.30pm when Home and Away starts and 9pm when Corrie finishes on a Monday and Friday would do well. Emmerdale and Corrie were the jewels in their crown!

What's on at 7.30 since they lost Corrie or is The Seven O Clock show an hour long?

And how come they still have The X Factor and it's not aired on UTV Ireland?

Yeah, I think different soaps for different regions is the only way to go. Unlike dramas, soaps are quite niche and only really appeal in their home country because it's that country's way of life that's being reflected to an extent.

Yeah absolutely. Sorry to bang on about Red Rock again but that is something very different to most soaps, and it has succeeded. TV soaps have several flaws nowadays - too many episodes, no rehearsal time so shaky acting, shoddy scripts. They are dated, cliched and detached from reality. If a Netflix soap avoided all of those flaws, it could work.

Their weekday evening schedule is pretty dire. They've news at 5.30 followed by an hour of celebrity fluff news show Xpose, followed by an hour of The Seven O'Clock Show which is essentially like This Morning followed by more news at 8pm. It's 8.30pm before they're clear of all that dross and even then they air the Channel 5 stuff that drogdaz mentioned.

TV3 managed to retain the rights to quite a lot of ITV stuff like BGT, X Factor and Downton. I can't recall the exact ins and outs of why they managed this but I'm sure it's online somewhere. As it turns out, TV3 and UTV Ireland are now both own by Virgin Media in Ireland so the likelihood of them merging or becoming sister channels are high so there is a possibility that the ITV soaps may end up back on TV3 anyway.

I live in NZ and it's still going but it's nowhere near as popular as it was 10-15 years ago, I know barely anyone that still watches it.

They all absolutely should. Perhaps it would bring an end to all the threads calling for so and so to comeback etc. Let those who want to live in the past, do so. Let those who want to watch the soaps as they are now do so as well.

I hope Netflix do their own soaps
I personally find the majority of their original shows don't really cover a variety of audiences. They are mainly aimed at adults or little kids.

Here in the US we had Coronation Street, Neighbours and Hollyoaks on Hulu which is like Netflix but is strictly focused on tv shows. They also show General Hospital on there too. I think its a great idea and is the way tv is going. I read a rumor on another site that the reason Corrie was pulled of of Hulu is because ITV and BBC are working on their own Hulu type service which makes sense because Hulu was a creation of the networks here in the US.

They should do a soap streaming site similar to netflix

There is a reality streaming site called HayU. So why can't soaps have their own? They could have a mixture of old and new soaps all around the world. I would sign up instantly.
