How much longer is this awful storyline going to going on for? It started in March and now it's heading into September so it's already been nearly 6 months.
Bethany should've told the police when they stole her mobile phone and had Gemma as a witness. In fact how many (current) residents now know about the bullying? I know The Platts (Gail, Audrey, Nick, Sarah and David), Luke, Gemma and now Gary definitely know about it and it's still happening. As for Lauren's mother she's just as bad originally she was angry/upset with Lauren for bullying now she's defending her and her actions. I'm hoping this storyline ends soon with Lauren, her mother and the rest of the bullies all getting their comeuppance. Also:

While I think Lucy Fallon is a fine young actress, I don't think this storyline has been very well developed. I remember Hollyoaks doing a bullying storyline with Esther that was a lot more convincing.
I agree PDS1985 that it doesn't make sense that so many know about the bulling and nothing is happening. Esther's storyline was effective because it showed how isolated she felt and why she didn't feel she could talk to anyone. Bethany has plenty of resources to help her. |

David should have done that right from the start. But to address the idea that Lauren is going to play the victim, that is sadly what happens if you don't nip these things in the bud. Lauren can't possibly get away with that though as there are too many witnesses to confirm it was Lauren bullying Bethany not the other way round. They need a definite conclusion for my mind not just have Lauren written out. There has to be consequences which make her regret what she did.

Every element of this storylines has been embarrassing for Corrie.
What's got on my tits the most has been the terrible portrayal of a group of young teenage girls. As I've discussed with many FMs in the past, the way the gang of girls speaks and behaves is nothing short of embarrassing. The dialogue has been unbelievable, the situations they've been put into even more so (Bethany in Roy's Rolls having a cuppa and a pain aux raisins ...really?) and to top it all, they've frequently been dressed like old women. The production team has no grasp on how to write this type of character. These girls are young women, not eight year old schoolgirls. They would be far more menacing and frightening in real life, not standing in a circle chanting 'psycho' like they're at Saturday morning drama group. It's also been pointless given that the Platts have had so much to deal with over the past 6 months or so. Carla/Nick's wedding, the Callum reveal, Sarah's mental health issues, Kylie's murder and then Bethany's bullying all lumped onto one family at the same time. It's ridiculous. Could this story not have been given to someone like Amy instead? |

It isn't the worst bullying storyline but its not an easy subject to tackle, especially realistically.
Soaps have to be so careful now with what language and what physical stuff they can broadcast that it must frustrate all the people involved that they can't do the storyline complete justice. I'd say its about as realistic as the big soaps can get away with doing it without getting complaints from viewers. If they showed too much violence about it or certain types of language the regulators would come down on them like a ton of bricks. Sometimes you just have to accept this is the best way they can show it. |

Maybe they could do a Mean Girls homage and have Lauren hit by a bus and people thinking it was Bethany when it wasn't really.

Also how many times have Lauren and her mates deliberately been going to the area where Bethany lives now just to bully her?
- First time was when Luke stopped it and took Bethany to the Salon. - When Bethany took Harry out and Nick threw Lauren's bag on the floor. - When Lauren and her mum went to the Platt house following the Nick incident. - When they stole Bethany's mobile phone and Gemma helped Bethany. - When Lauren talked to Bethany in the cafe and outside the cafe when they were calling her "psycho". - In the gym when Bethany punched Lauren. - Now she's in the Salon with Bethany and David. It doesn't seem like it's just bullying anymore it looks like it's stalking as well. Also doesn't Bethany have any friends around her own age (apart from Craig) what happened with the people she invited to her birthday party in June? |

She and the 'bullies' look like twenty-year-olds, who would more likely be out clubbing than pulling hair in the playground. And why is Gary involved? he isn't family, or even a family friend. |

I've never seen any bullies doing the chanting either. It's also not common for bullies to follow the victim home, unless they live close to each other, instead bullies use social media as a way to make the victim feel insecure in their own home. |

I'm sure if they suddenly dropped the plot this forum would still complain.

For those saying it would have been better given to Amy, I'm afraid in her case I would be happily cheering the bullies on, irritating, precocious little brat!!
Sorry!! |

![]() I can see what people mean about the 'gang' not being realistic but it would be virtually impossible to make them so before the watershed!! Lucy has done it justice though imo!! |

I agree the portrayal of the bullies is ridiculous. Teenage girls tend to be a lot more sneaky when they bully. I work in counselling at a local secondary school and I've seen it first hand. The main type of bullying we deal with is rumours, "So and so is a slag, she slept with my boyfriend." is the most common one. That then escalates, leaving the victim in a vulnerable position, once the victim has got a bad reputation from said rumour, other types of bullying begins to start. Attacks on social media, death threats etc. It's not usually big groups of gangs at first, it's 2 or 3 girls who slowly being to turn everyone against the victim.
Bethany's bullying story is full of cliches, which is why I don't find it believable. I've never seen any bullies doing the chanting either. It's also not common for bullies to follow the victim home, unless they live close to each other, instead bullies use social media as a way to make the victim feel insecure in their own home. You've really highlighted the most important point for me - that bad language and violence don't have to be the hallmarks of a successful storyline, whether it's about bullying or anything else. Others have commented that the portrayal of the 'gang' has been softened because of not wanting to show bad language and violence before 9pm, but if Corrie really wanted to do this story justice they would realise that the threats, rumours and psychological elements are the real bedrock of the story and could be easily depicted on screen without having to show bad language and violence. The actions of the gang have been laughable, hanging round Coronation Street waiting for Bethany 24/7. This is just sheer laziness of the part of the production team. Bullies would keep as much distance as possible from their victim's home life and would run an absolute mile after having been confronted by the victim's family and friends (as they have on more than one occasion). They're ultimately cowards so would look for a more vulnerable victim instead of risking being caught out themselves. It's like they've lifted it straight from the 'Cliche Guide to Writing Teenage Girls' and toned it down even more. Grange Hill in 1978 wouldn't have even written bullying like this. |

Brookside's bullying storyline, (from when we first saw the bullies up until the end of the trial where the bully died), lasted for two years.
