In context that happens all the time in this country with far worse repeat offenders getting away with it and worse long term fallout for the victims. The non belief of most of the offenders never seems to be such an issue.
People seem far more concerned with highlighting this issue to make some tenuous claim that atheists are discriminated against legally but happy to give blatant assertions that religion equals latent criminality a free pass. Based on very fuzzy evidence at that.

The vast majority of violent crime is committed by males, so you need locking up Sulla, just in case.. Your sex plays a greater role in whether you'll commit a violent crime than whether you believe in God or not.
Some Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims have murdered their own daughters because they 'dishonoured' the family by dating boys not from their religious group, so clearly in these cases, a belief in God did nothing to stop them committing the worst crime going - a woman being killed by the very man who was meant to protect her in life.

It actually encourages such behaviour - they think they are obeying divine will - and you do have to wonder about an all powerful God who just simply cannot be arsed to prevent the endless slaughter and misery on this pitiful little planet.

This life is all we have - it can be utterly appalling for millions of people around the world - but in the end it's better (apart from extreme cases of suffering) than the alternative.

Use some rational thinking here, keyser. Crime is correlated with low income and low education. At least the kind of crime people get convicted for. As opposed to silent white collar crime. Religion is correlation, not causation.
