Worming treatments for dogs.
Can anyone recommend the best worming tablets for dogs. The last couple of times our 22 month old westie has been sick and brought back up the tablet.
The vet prescribed Drontal but that did the same and we have tried Bob Martins as well which he kept down for a couple of hours but was then sick. At a bit of a loss as what to try now. |

We usually use Milbemax, it's just 1 tablet.
There is also a Panacur that you give over 3 days (we gave this to our dog when he was a young puppy as he was eating his poop - I think we gave a second dose 2 weeks later). Not sure if these would be any better, have you talked about it with your vet, there are anti vomiting medicines they can give you, if they think it's important and safe. |

I have always used Milbemax. My dog has no issues with it, but my previous dog who was 7kg would be sick if given any standard worming tablet, so what I used to do was give him two of the smaller ones instead. That way, he still got the amount needed but as it was two much smaller tablets they didn't upset his stomach. Worked like a charm as he was never sick after that when he was wormed. Ask you vets for a Milbemax for small dogs and puppies, unless they've changed the shape their like a tiny tic tac shape as opposed to the typical round pill shape of the standard size.

Another vote for milbemax. Although our dogs aren't small the vet often gives them them as a combination of tablet sizes to get the accurate dose. Never had any problem with it at all. Had projectile vomiting from Drontal. I'm sure they changed something a while back as they used to be fine with it then suddenly started to be sick every time so changed.

Yes lungworm didn't used to be such an issue and as you say milbemax is a lot more expensive but does cover it too which makes it worth it to me.
I once decided to worm all 4 the afternoon before we all went on holiday and all 4 projectile vomited all over the living room, dog beds, carpets, everywhere , just what I needed! They were fine but I had a huge pile of washing and of course you then don't know whether you need to worm them again in case it didn't work.

Tiny Betty has problems with some but milebax seem OK as long as I give them with food. If she has them alone they don't stay down long.
