Hello,

I'm not a bodybuilder; in actual fact I don't do any real exercise due to health problems. However, for nutritional purposes and as part of my diet regime I eat a lot of protein bars, meal-replacement bars and protein flapjacks.

My absolute favourite ones that I eat very regularly are:

Maxi Nutrion - 'Lean Definition' range which come in 3 flavours of mint, orange and dark chocolate.

Maxi Nutrition - 'Sustain & Rebuild' range Cherry flavour and Blueberry Smoothie flavour.

but lots of others too, including some like Herbalife, Superdrug's own 'Slenderplan' meal bars, Atkins, ProFirst (from cheap shops like B&M Home Bargains), etc.

Who else eats these type of bars and which do you like best? Also interested in hearing the reason you eat these; ie. is it for health and fitness goals or just because you like them?

Never heard of any of those ones........

I like Trackers and Treks........cereal and nut bars

Also Nakd which are pressed fruit bars flavoured with different things.........one of your 5 a day !

I'll sometimes have a Trek Bar....particularly the coconut flavoured one.......with an Apple for lunch

I'm a big fan of the pro2go range from SCI-MX, notably the caramel vanilla duo bars . They are avaliable in B&M now for £1 each which is good value. I bought various products from MyProtein cookies etc but they tasted awful. I don't eat them as much now though due to the high sugar content.

I eat a lot of high protein products purely to stop the hunger thus avoiding eating junk food.

Arla Protein yogurts are my favourite protein snack though! Lidl Skyr is not bad either and a much better price tag

It's unbelievable how many people eat these things and think they're avoiding junk food. The majority of these things are high in protein and low in carbs...but extremely high in sugar. Just had a look online and one of the Nakd bars that someone above mentioned contains 16.6g of sugar. The Trek Coconut bar mentioned above contains 13.5g of sugar!! I'm a personal trainer and even with protein shakes there's so many out there that are absolutely full of carbs or full of sugar.

Don't a lot of these bars contain about 15g of sugar.

To give an idea - that's 4 teaspoons

"This molecule is not a natural part of metabolism and humans do not produce it. In fact, very few cells in the body can make use of it except liver cells. When we eat a lot of sugar, most of the fructose gets metabolized by the liver. There it gets turned into fat, which is then secreted into the blood."

Sugar is fat. Nuff said
