I've not listened to the Chili Peppers for a year or two now and certainly haven't bought any albums of theirs since Stadium Arcadium, so I was keen to record their headlining gig at Reading and have a bit of a binge.

Finished watching/listening last night and I have to say .. wow! Just .. wow! They played all the well known stuff and only two or three numbers that I hadn't heard before. I was in seventh heaven throughout. Flea was on top form and their 'new' guitarist Josh Klinghoffer is brilliant. Those two work together so well on stage, and it's all locked together by Chad Smith's drums as usual. Kiedis' vocals didn't disappoint either.

A totally brilliant 1hr 40m set which I shall record as a Blu-ray and keep forever!

I agree, they were on top form!
Especially Chad, he is insane!

Josh is really coming into his own. John Frusciante can never be replaced but Josh is as close as you can get. Love his passion. Chad is an absolute monster on the drums. They were all fantastic.

Highlights were Dark Necessities, Parallel Universe and By The Way.

He's a lazy performer. I've seen the Chili's live twice - once with Dave and once with John and Dave was a much better performer, John was sloppy and barely showed any energy. Josh looks much more engaged than John ever was too.

Would have loved to have seen them with Hillel though.

John was sloppy in his drug days. But he was brilliant since he rejoined. You can't fault his writing skills. He wrote all the music on By The Way. Under The Bridge is one of the most complex guitar parts ever written, same with Snow. The solo to Dani California is off the scale.

Dave was good on One Hot Minute. Transcending is one of the best riffs.
