Hi I'm new to this forum and was wondering what you guys would like Chibnall to do with Doctor Who when he takes over. I haven't particularly enjoyed Moffat's era and one reason is because I feel he over complicates some things even though he seems to have made DW more of a kids show. When I watch old Russell T Davies episodes there is a lot of depth in the story even though there is a simplicity to them. They are also very emotional. One thing he did excellently was the Tyler family who were very down to earth and working class and I felt because we got to know Rose's family and life we could care about her more.

1. Ground the show more in real life
2. Believable and likeable lead characters
3. Make the Doctor dashing and charismatic, perhaps even a romantic lead
4. Have the companion travel with the Doctor full time - no popping home between each adventure
5. Light-touch story arcs - something subtle that reveals at the end
6. Fresh and bright – no more dreary stories about the Doctor’s death or re-writes of his personal history
7. Make it FUN!
8. Have more of a sense of the continuity of the show since 2005 - rather than it being essentially another reboot

-Make it feel new and distinct, but unmistakeably Doctor Who and not "Skins in Space"
-Keep the Doctor as the unique and unconventional hero he is now and not make him into a generic eye candy star
-More aliens and planets
-Make it scary

- Accessible to everyone. Not die hard Classic Who fans or Tumblr fangirls but everyone.
- A consistent time slot. 7pm to be honest like it used to be.
- Better promotion/trailers. Remember when we got excellent concept trailers to promote the series? We need those again.
- Two companions - a contemporary one of course but also a non contemporary one.
- Light and dark. Strike the balance right with the stories. Only two 2 parters per series.
- Any more than that is pushing. Have the odd experimental episode in there too.
- No female Doctor. Aside from forum members and bloggers, I don't think this would benefit the show in the long run and the general public won't want it either. It doesn't need to be a thing at all. Kill the idea dead.
- A 30 something male actor as the 13th Doctor. Charismatic and likeable too.

Its why I like the show. New Producers/Showrunners/etc lead to new directions. "You've got to keep moving..." to paraphrase the 11th Doctor. Like RTD and SM he's a fan, and assume hes had his take on what he'd like to do with Who for a while. Do admit I do find it a bit funny that he was on TV in 1986 having a pop at the then current production team as a youngster...and now he's in charge. C'mon matey.....it's easy, Mr Armchair Critic/Back seat driver!


Seriously, wish him well, of course!

- I want him to create his own Nostalgia like Russell did in 2005 not play off the classics or try to change it into something its not, but references and one shot stories like (School Reunion) is ok.

- I want Doctor Who to go back to being a fun Saturday 7 o'clock event again One thing Early (Series 5) Moffat and Russell did well is striking the right balance between serious stories and light hearted adventure stories.

- I want there to be full time companions and want that old (Send you a postcard) Feel to the show. I miss when, when you stepped into that Police Box you step into that world for good, something Series 4 did well, where Donna suddenly packed up all her things and left with The Doctor and would give Wilfred and her Mother phonecalls here and there, it makes the danger seem more real.

- I want Chibnall to do his own thing although not go crazy if you know what I mean by that. Change is good but too much change will kill this show, take baby steps.

- Consistency in between stories something Series 8 and 9 didn't do too well.

-Make the Doctor Young and Old, Don't keep making him Old and Don't keep making him Young. Although if you're gonna make him old make him appealing because not everyone will fall in love with the idea, don't make his only personality trait is that hes old and cranky and try to shove it in the audiences face something they did wrong with Capaldi IMO. Don't just tell the audience "Hes Older now deal with it" Show them why they were wrong.

I'm sure in 2005 before the show started there was a lot of doubt in Chris as the Doctor.

Interesting that a few posters have mentioned a return to 7pm on Saturday nights, which I would also prefer.

Looking at the BBC1 Saturday line-up for April-June 2016, it does seem a much more flexible environment for Doctor Who to be entering - things like Pointless Celebrities, the National Lottery 'In It to Win It' quiz and Michael McIntyre's Big Show.

I'm not sure what's on ITV at that time in the spring but it does look like Doctor Who could be set for pride of place on the spring Saturday evenings again.

Like many of you have said I'd like the companion to travel full time but give them a family which RTD did very well with his companions, to pop back to in certain episodes. That's one thing series 1–2 did very well with Rose popping back to see Jackie and Mickey and not going back home after every adventure like Clara did.

He should make it his own. Put his stamp on it, just like RTD and SM. As show runner it's his job.

Then, like it or lump it, it will be his success (or his failure).

Aim for the golden mean...

Less serious than Moffat but also less glib than JNT eras.

Faster paced than old Who but slower paced than New Who.

A nicer more human Doctor than Capaldi's but not as nice or human as Davison's.

I suppose some people love it when the show goes 'out there' but generally it is not a good look for the show whether it be endlessly morbid (recent) or endlessly ridiculous (before the cancellation).

I know it would spoil the myth but i would like some development on the doctors past

Usually ITV's most watched show, AFAIK.

As long as it's not Family Fortunes. That's just unfair!

I hope Chibnall doesn't pay too much attention to us fans and creates his own vision for the show. RTD and Moffat both had their own distinct ideas, I hope Chibnall is confident enough to be distinct, different and fresh.

Seriously, what have you been watching the last two or three years? All Moffat does is bang out about the Doctor's past. I feel I know about this once-mysterious traveller in Space and Time now than I do about myself.

Less SERIOUS than Moffat?? His stuff is the dictionary definition of glib. Boring, too.

I think he meant serious in the sense of dull and gloomy, rather than deep and thoughtful.

I think RTDs series 4 should be used as a template. Best era since hinchcliffe. A great mix of intrigue, shock, characters the audience cared for..

Also need a new 'main' villain.. daleks and cybermen and the master have been exhausted now. A series finale featuring the Wirrrn or Sutech or Omega, would give me goosebumps personally.. Also make the Sontarans sinster again..

And why we are at it, go back to Rtd era theme tune.. moffats have been woeful

-A more grounded, straightforward human drama rather than a brain exercise.
-Story arcs which have a beginning, a middle and an end. Not tangled confusion like the Silence arc or abstract, open-ended nonsense like the Hybrid arc.
-I'd like to see the show become more urban.
-New villains. No Daleks or Cybermen for a good few years.
-Lastly, do his absolute best to keep Peter Capaldi, because that man deserves a fourth season.

THIS! Capaldi is a fantastic Doctor, and I love how he mellowed out in Series 9! As long as he is like he was in Series 9, and not 8, I'm up for him doing a Tom Baker and staying for a LONG TIME!

Cliffhangers-Let's have a return to those cliffhangers where at the start of the next episode, you're exactly at the same point as the end of the previous one. Yes, it worked at first in some stories, but after a while you know, no matter how an episode ends, it's just going to zoom off somewhere else at the beginning of the next!

Plus bring back some energy and pace to the show. I have really missed the rollercoaster episodes like Doomsday, Stolen Earth and Journey's End.

I'm not saying structurally the show be like that as it's moved on from RTD's time but please, let's have some excitement in the episodes rather than some of the dullfests of the last few years!

I also hope that if Capaldi does leave we get another, older Doctor, but maybe a bit lighter and funnier still to show older Doctors can be as fun as Younger Doctors.

He won't. I can't see any actor matching or surpassing Tom's record. I love Capaldi's Doctor but I think it might be better for Chibnall to start his era off with a new Doctor in the role.

I think for Capaldi it was a case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

The creation of iconic new monsters. In ten years, the New Series has only really created the Weeping Angels as anything that comes remotely close to the Daleks and Cybermen (with the Ood a distant second). Villains have become very through-away, and great creature designs have been wasted; The Fisher King deserved so much more than the five minutes he was on screen.

Put some time and effort into creating iconic, well defined villains that writers will be bringing back in thirty years time. The Silence, who were effing fantastic, could be/could have been this, but their close connection with River's story makes it hard to imagine what a future writer would do with them.

Also, better character writing, two-parters, Capaldi, and Moffat to continue writing a story a year.

Oh and Chibnal to write much better episode then he did during other people's eras. Hopefully, now he hasn't got other people dictating concepts to him that they didn't want to write themselves, he'll shine.
