What is your favourite Britney Spears album?
Edward Skylover

I find this so hard to decide, it changes aaallllll the time, I know it's not Baby, Oops, Britney or In the Zone. It would have to be either Blackout, Femme Fatale, Britney Jean or Glory. I used to really like Circus but I don't like it as much as I used to. Same for Blackout, it's still up there with my favourites, but it sounds a little dated to me now. After the novelty of Glory has worn off a little, I would say it's a fight between Femme Fatale and Britney Jean for me, but Femme Fatale is in the lead at the moment. Nothing beats Hold It Against Me for me, that drop in the bridge Gets me every time.

So which one is it for you??

9. Britney: Slave is the only song I like from that album. I only recently re-heard the album version of Boys and it's awful.
8. BOMT: Singles and Soda Pop are the only ones I'd really remember.
7. Oops!: I have great childhood memories of my sister playing the cassette in her room. Don't Go Knockin' is still amazing.
6. Circus: It's a fun album but quite meaningless. I loved the singles but tended to listen to the unreleased tracks like Dangerous or rare songs like Rock Me In or Phonography.
5. Britney Jean: I think BJ gets a lot of flack but it is full of great dance tracks like Til' It's Gone, Work B*tch, Now That I've Found You as well as classic poppy songs like Brightest Morning Star, Passenger and Perfume. It is sloppily produced though.
4. Femme Fatale: FF is crammed with great Britney songs! The singles alone are varied and fresh sounding while album tracks like Inside Out, How I Roll, TTYH, U&D, HATLM and Scary play with genres and could have been perfect singles. I completely agree with you about HIAM, that breakdown gives me chills! It was perfectly represented in the video with the fight and breakdown montage.

3. In the Zone: ITZ was the first era where I sat up and took notice. I think I got to the age where I understood and appreciated what the songs were about. I remember seeing the MATM video premiere with my friends on one of the music channels and we were all silent and then just said "Woah...". Toxic is my favourite song that still sounds fresh and exhilerating to this day. Everytime is hauntingly beautiful. TOMH, BOM and Early Mornin' are classic Britney album tracks. I love the etheral vibe that Britney oozes throughout ITZ coupled with that Island swagger which I mentioned reappears on Glory.

2. Glory: It gives me ITZ vibes with a big dose of fun in the middle of it. I think the key to me loving an album is when Britney sounds engaged with the music. Glory has yet to stand the test of time (I wonder will it be forgettable in a years time?) but the majority of tracks make some kind of impact on me. I love all the tracks except PS, WYN and Clumsy (it's catchy but the generic nature bugs me). I'm looking forward to seeing how the singles/videos/performances play out this era.

1. Blackout: While ITZ caught my attention, Blackout whacked me around the head and insisted I paid attention. I was in my moody late teens and things in my life felt so dramatic and world-ending so for Britney to be struggling in the media and dropping a dark, grimey, dance-driven album just clicked with me. I love Britney for her talent to notice an earworm or catchy hit, not her writing skills or credibility as an artist but Blackout showed both sides to her. There is not a single song on this album that I do not love, do not know the words to STILL to this day, or have not danced provocatively to in a gay bar! It is epic. It is iconic.

In the Zone, the first time Britney really struck out on her own, the first time we were seeing the REAL Britney, she was so sensual and passionate on that album, songs like Breathe on Me, Touch of my Hand, Everytime etc were so full of personality and meaning. Not to mention it was very experimental with dance tracks like Toxic and Brave New Girl. And had tons of Urban influences on songs like Boom Boom, Hook Up, Outrageous and Me Against the Music. This was Britney at her peak, she was sexy, her dancing was incredible and incomparable to anyone else and it seemed like she'd finally found her signature sound. I love that Glory has so many callbacks to it. It's like she's found her groove again and saying "I'm back".
But this was a difficult choice if I'm honest, bar Bratwurst Jambon she's had top quality albums her entire career. Each one is different and tells a different story, so I feel hesitant to rank one over the other as they all sound pretty different with different influences.

It's between In The Zone and Blackout for me, with Glory now reaching for third spot. My problem with Glory, however, is that it feels a little 'cheesy' - the musical choices are fresh and fun, but the lyrical material feels like playing it safe; she's done (subtle as well as explicit) songs about sex forever, it's not daring or brave anymore, if anything it's a little desperate.

After those three it's really hard to rank them. I really like Femme Fatale and Britney, but then Baby One More Time carries so much nostalgia, and Oops has Stronger and Don't Go Knockin' etc. and Circus is really fun.

9. Britney Jean - I don't think i actually ever managed to get through it all lol.
8. BOMT - Singles and I Will Still Love You still get the odd play.
7. Circus - Never felt the hype seemed like a major misstep after Blackout.
6. OIDIA
5. Britney
4. Glory
3. Femme Fatale - I would say i can still listen to FF all the way through more than the rest.
2. Blackout
1. In The Zone

Find it hard to choose between ITZ and Blackout and even though theres the odd song i dislike on both albums there still 2 of my all time favourites.

In The Zone is still my favourite, album I think Glory is becoming a close second. I love it more and more each time I play it, although there are a few songs on it I don't like at all.

Circus is another fave, it think it has some great songs. With all of Britney's other albums there are songs I really love, some I don't mind and others that are in one ear and out the other and I tend to skip those. Her first two albums sound quite dated now but they do have some classics on them. Britney isn't a bad album although there's a lot of filler. I like 6 or 7 songs on Femme Fatale, a lot of the album is just too generic dance-by-numbers for me and the ridiculous over-use of autotuning really grates on me. The least said about Britney Jean the better. I like about 3 songs on it and even then they're hardly my favourite Britney songs. I find most of the album incredible bland, monotonous, formulaic, tuneless and basically soulless! Blackout has great production and some good songs but I find it all a bit samey after a while. I wonder what Original Doll would have been like!

So basically top 3 fave Britney albums are In The Zone, Glory and Circus.

Blackout, it's as edgy as mainstream pop music gets and still sounds fresh even nine years later. It got overshadowed at the time by her personal life but it is her best album. ITZ was my second favourite but now it's between that and Glory. I can no longer choose between the two. Circus and Femme Fatale are enjoyable albums but FF gets a bit boring after a while. It's a good fun pop album though. Oops I Did It Again is ok but I never liked some of the ballads on it. Dear Diary has to be one of the worst Britney songs I ever heard. I always skip that one. Baby One More Time has some iconic singles and was her debut but it sounds a bit cheesy and dated. She was only a teen when she recorded it though. Britney Jean has to be my least favourite album. There are a few songs I like on it and Work Bitch is an anthem but the production isn't good and some of the songs sound more like rough demos. I probably would like it more if will.i.am wasn't on it and if the songs were more polished. The production on Glory is a vast improvement.
