Yes, I noticed someone asking where they could get a shirt like the one anew character was wearing, thing is, the character didn't appear until a week after the letter was published so no one would know what shirt he would be wearing.

Lol!!! He didn't do too badly out of leaving did he?

On a similar topic anyone remember if it was Smash hits Jim Reid worked for who went on to form Jeus & Mary Chain with his twin bro?
If it wasn't then it was Record Mirror which I also used to get at the time!!

There were loads of them to choose from on the shelves, anyone remember Flexipop with the dodgy free disc on the front of every issue? Kicks (or was it Kix) was another one!!

I've had letters published in Inside Soap. Sometimes it's been the next issue, sometimes it's been weeks later. I think they sometimes hold a letter back so the idiot of a letters editor can make her facetious remarks based on something that hadn't happened when the letter was written. And the answers to viewers' questions are often written by someone who doesn't know the answer but pretends to and waffles unconvincingly for a bit. But "fake"? I can't say I've ever seen a letter about something that hasn't been shown. And I've got a stack of £10 cheques going into my bank account to confirm that that's not fake.

I remember Flexipop! Kicks escapes me, though.

I don't think Jim Reid was at SH - he might have been at Record Mirror for a while. Great times for music journalism. Flipping tragedy what's happened to NME.

And I apologize to all for hijacking this thread to talk about Music Mags of the 1980s.

OK, maybe not all of it is fake, but I can see that some letters have been made up or plagiarised from another magazine.

I remember Record Mirror, i think that is the one Jim Reid was on because RM was indie related wasn't it?

And don't apologise for hijacking the thread, i love talking about old times, better times in our lives, before the Internet and stuff. It's preferable to talking about the Inside Soap letters page any day of the week!

Us oldies remember the good times before the Internet when mags were our bibles and indie was so called because it really was independent!

Probably, though I am partial to a bit of PSB though!

I've always thought that most of them were obviously fake. They just don't read like something ordinary members of the public would say.

I had two letters printed but both were heavily 'doctored' from the originals so guess in that way it is still fake!!

That sounds about right - must have been RM then. Aaaaaand ... a quick google confirms it! Found a Jim Reid interview with Prefab Sprout.

You had to go all the way to the shop to buy a mag to find out about stuff. And then write a letter and wait about 2 months for it to be answered ... if you were lucky. Gooood times.

They're brilliant. Now off to listen to a bit of West End Girls ...

Instead of asking about Neil Tennant on a soap forum, why not just look him up on the net?

"Neil Francis Tennant is an English musician, singer and songwriter and co-founder of the synthpop duo Pet Shop Boys, which he formed with Chris Lowe in 1981. Wikipedia"

I haven't read Inside Soap mag for a while but now I want to check and see if I can find the fake ones! I did notice in another magazine though that an 'interview' with a soap actor was clearly faked
