iPhone 7 Appreciation Thread
Stig
31-08-2016
I thought I would start a new iPhone 7 thread as the launch is only a week away. The 'other' iPhone 7 thread has gone very off-topic!

For those of you not familiar with 'appreciation' threads: Appreciation threads are designed to allow fans of a particular subject to engage in positive and light-hearted discussion of a subject. Negative posts in an appreciation thread are considered off-topic and will be removed. If you wish to discuss the subject of an appreciation thread you are welcome to post constructive negative comments in a separate thread.

To the phone itself, the latest rumours are:

The biggest leak comes in the form of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus specs, collected by Techtastic. If this new information is true, both versions of the new iPhone 7 will offer a big step up in performance compared to the iPhone 6s. According to Techtastic, the iPhone 7 will have an A10 and M10 coprocessor as expected, and use a 2GB of RAM powered by a 1,960mAh battery – a significant 275mAh larger than the iPhone 6s before it. In addition, the report also suggests the iPhone 7 will also have a 12-megapixel camera, along with a 1/2.6in sensor, f/1.9 and 1.3 µm pixels. Finally, the reports states that the iPhone 7 will use a 4.7in screen identical to the iPhone 6s.

It looks as though the iPhone 7 Plus will have pretty similar specs to the standard iPhone 7, but will feature a few key differences. For example, the larger iPhone will come with 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM – 1GB more than the standard handset, and also feature a 2,910mAh battery. But the most significant bit? The iPhone 7 Plus will use a pair of 12-megapixel, 1/3in sensor, f/1.9 cameras.

Does a glossy black finish appeal?

There has also been sightings of a blue colour.

The thing that bothers me is, after having the slate black iPhone 5, and even though you'd think I carry my phone round on a cushion I look after it that well, the wear over time meant the black anodised back and sides buffed to show silver through in areas (especially round the edges).

I currently have the space grey iPhone 6 and as the back and sides are much lighter (almost silver) to begin with, the iPhone 5 problem hasn't happened.

I like having a black bezel, and them going back to having darker back covers worries me that the iPhone 5 wear problem will reoccur.

One can only hope Apple learned their lesson with the iPhone 5. Like you I have a space grey iPhone 6 Plus and the Space Grey still looks great.

I know owners of the black Apple Watch found that it showed micro scratches after a while.

There's lots of talk about the loss of the headphone socket. It really doesn't bother me as I use Bluetooth headphones most of the time anyway. If Apple are planning to make the 7 waterproof then removing a 3.5mm hole makes that a lot easier. Plus you can make the phone thinner too.

It does bother me to some extent as bluetooth does not sound the same to me as a wired connection does, plus with bluetooth its another gadget to charge up.

I see Apple co founder Steve Wozniak has some concerns on that front too.

But they are providing a lightning to jack adaptor apparently, so just keep that attached to your headphones.

As much as any alteration like this has pros and cons, I think the "controversy" around this is a bit OTT.

If you appreciate certain elements but not others. Like if I like the shape of the number 7 but not anything to do with the phone can that still go in this appreciation thread?

Didn't realise OP had the power to judge what is off topic and to remove posts.

Only 3hrs left.

I just hope not much work comes in so I can watch the unveiling, also the data connection holds out and doesn't drop like it normally does.

Also fingers crossed for pre-orders THIS Friday as I am on late shift and will be able to put all my effort into pre-order on Friday morning.
