Summer (The First Time) by Bobby Goldsboro!

It's a really beautiful song but it doesn't half bring the tears on.

Everything from my late beautiful precious Billy Joe Royal moves me.

God bless you and his family always!!!

Holly

P.S. The first song from him that comes to my mind is his song named "Out Of Sight And On My Mind". The last line of the first verse is where I get always get hit: "Why do I keep looking for you when I know you've gone?"

This has been "moving" people for over fifty years, endless numbers of past recordings and still being recorded by others every year.

"My One and Only Love," published in 1952 by Guy Wood and Robert Mellin.
Recorded by Sinatra in 1953. From then on it became a "standard."

For me the best of both worlds in this version included on a 1963 album by John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman, as a singer Hartman had far better voice control than Sinatra.

I've also got the Sinatra version on a 45rpm record in a vinyl jukebox..

I also like this.

Every Time You Go Away by Daryl Hall, (he wrote it).

I remember that film and the lady singing it. She was one of the very few survivors.

The Crying Game - Boy George

Such a simple song but it cuts right through you;
"First there are kisses, then there are sighs, and then before you know where you are, you're saying goodbye"

The piano version of Piece By Piece by Kelly Clarkson - especially her performance of it on American Idol earlier this year. The song is about her dad leaving when she was 6 years old, and how her husband is a better man and father than him. It's an emotional song anyway but when she sang it on American Idol you could see she was clearly singing from the heart, and she struggled to get through the song. I think you'd need to have a heart of stone to not get a lump in your throat at her performance. Even Keith Urban had tears running down his cheeks. I know there's a lot of emotional manipulation on these kind of shows, but Keith was very obviously genuinely moved to tears.

I was going to mention this one actually but many dismiss it as being very cheesy.
I find it pretty sad and relatable myself
