The piano version of Piece By Piece by Kelly Clarkson - especially her performance of it on American Idol earlier this year. The song is about her dad leaving when she was 6 years old, and how her husband is a better man and father than him. It's an emotional song anyway but when she sang it on American Idol you could see she was clearly singing from the heart, and she struggled to get through the song. I think you'd need to have a heart of stone to not get a lump in your throat at her performance. Even Keith Urban had tears running down his cheeks. I know there's a lot of emotional manipulation on these kind of shows, but Keith was very obviously genuinely moved to tears.

Like an Angel Passing through my Room by Abba. Incredibly moving song and reminds me sadly of my mother passing away last year and the week we spent around her bedside before she left this world.
Sara by Fleetwood Mac always gets for me some reason as well. |

I was going to mention this one actually but many dismiss it as being very cheesy.
I find it pretty sad and relatable myself ![]() Having said that one of the most cheesy, dire songs that was successful is Hey Jude by The Beatles. |

"Excerpt From a Teenage Opera" - Keith West
A bit cheesy, but still a tearjerker "Miss Sarajevo" - U2/Brian Eno/Pavarotti |

Miles Davis was capable of some pretty emotive improvisations.
This is one of my favourites from his later years. Just listen to the passage that begins at 1.50 in. A classic example of his "less is more" style. Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OddHP8_Em7s |

'Everyone says hi' by David Bowie really gets to me. It sounds cheerful but it's about losing a loved one.

Some examples: Paul McCartney: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVwuQVertl0 Maroon 5: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Bc93-vE5cA Nate Ruess: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbyznfi6d-o Weezer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYY8pFY1AB0 Noel Gallagher: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgYG96D2VWY Although really just getting a huge mass of people doing the same thing gives me chills. Like, get a thousand people to all play Foo Fighters'? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JozAmXo2bDE |

Yep. It's a well known and very good cover of Cyndi Lauper's excellent song. Lesser known is his cover of Michael Jackson's Human Nature, which is equally good...both tracks from MD's You're Under Arrest album of 1985..
My favourite album of his will always be "Somethin' Else," I've an original imported copy I bought in my teens, shortly after it's release. Never tire of playing the CD I bought later of it as the vinyl is now showing its age. This is my favourite track. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2xx3YTu2ac |

I never knew about a happy ending?!
![]() It was released on a folk CD that she made, and apparently her dad is happy that it's been done as it sends out a message to lonely people not to give up hope 🙂 |

Cats In The Cradle - Harry Chapin
Alone Again..Naturally - Gilbert O Sullivan Both these are about loss or discord within a family. That always gets me welling up every time. ( I don't know why because I have a very happy family life and never lost anyone ) |

The Righteous Brothers - Unchained Melody: I start to wobble at that part of the lyrics that go: "My love, my darling, I've hungered for your kiss. Are you still mine?" And then his voice goes up on "I need your love, I need your love. God, speed your love, to me", and that's me in floods of tears.
