Nah - it's a minor issue and it's the #1 of soaps despite all of it's issues (and I say this as an EE fan)

Yes. It's better to axe it now and pave over it instead of having the set burn down in the upcoming race riots over all this.

There was NO 'Racism Scandal'

There was a joke, a play on words, that was humorous and obvious to those who knew the reference - which was misinterpreted by a few individuals on twitter with nothing better to do and twisted into the 'Most heinous act of racism ever presented on TV'

This in turn was picked up by the lower echelons of the media (I'm including DS here too) who have forgotten the true meaning of journalism, believing it boils down to extrapolating a non-story from a few lone tweets and turned it into a story to fuel the current 'Britain is Racist' sentiment that is sweeping the nation.

This racism scandal thing is starting to wind me up!!
Just been looking through a few articles about it & came up with this guy trying to explain why it was offensive:

I would like if I may to quote the following:

"Having a white character say 'I have more roots than Kunta Kinte' is somewhat insensitive to the history of oppression and the fact he was a slave. The white person was always seen as the slave owner!!"

Well I'm sorry but in this day and age I find that comment, or the inference behind it a hundred times more offensive than a perfectly innocent play on words!!
I am not about to squeal & complain about it, as it in itself was not purposely written to be offensive any more than the Corrie quip was but it does prove two things to me!

a) You can see racism in anything if you look for it
b) We are supposed to accept that racism is a one way highway & anyone complaining of 'reverse racism' would I have no doubt be laughed off the planet!!

I'm half black and half latina and honestly I've only seen white people say it was offensive irl.

Please it is not bad at all. I think you're still salty cuz they killed Kylie which I understand since I have recently lost my sexy muscle bound farmer on Emmerdale but even though it's quality has gone down its still watchable and not in danger of cancellation.

Yep, is often the way. Apart from the few black social media "activist" most the time it is white people arguing between themselves on these subjects on soaps.

Well I agree with you on Maria the show has turned into Maria Street, I think Kate Oates has found her Ross Barton of Corrie

Gemma will be back, she is a newer character so they probably don't want to shove her down our throats.

David will get his revenge in time, you know the Platts have dominated Corrie since last fall so I think they are just giving them a break and focusing on other stuff now.

She's really scraping the bottom of the barrel now isn't she!


Maria is too boring to get dramatic stories, the other leading lady is Leanne, who is ok but her baby stuff is tiring to watch. But Jane Danson is a great actress so it's not as bad to watch her. But Samia whatsherface is a terrible actress! (Sorry to anyone who likes her!)

This whole "racism scandal" seems to have been blown out of proportions. A few people on social media who were desperate to be offended misinterpreted the intent of a pun and the likes of the Mirror and the Daily Fail jumped on it. I'm sure it will blow over very shortly and the rags will return to writing about Katie Hopkins or whatever, the offended brigade will find something else that pisses them off and the writers can go back to composing "Fiz goes on a cake run".

As for Corrie being axed, that possibly is the fate it is eventually heading towards but its safe for a long while yet as long as ratings are good and ITV have it as one of their flagship shows.

FFS Gemma has been absent for all of five minutes & Maria's getting a bit of action for the first time in about 3 years!! You maynot like her, others do, get over it!!

I love the Platts but they can't and shouldn't be on all the time. Corrie's problems are far deeper rooted than that.

You think she is a terrible actress yet find the repulsive Gemma who isn't in the least bit funny far better, despite her being just as crap. Sorry, shouting and gobbing off doesn't qualify as acting. Thank god you don't run the show or we'd have that horrible creature at the forefront. I can understand Kylie as she was an actual decent actress who came across ordinary and could come across sympathetic, but Gemma is just a joke.
