Unless I'm being stupid, the last great affair story in EE was Stacey and Max.

So is it time for EastEnders to do another great affair? If so who be the cheater and who should they cheat with?

I agree, it would be great to have a long-lasting believable gripping love affair storyline. Stax and Sharongate were successful but they can do another fantastic love affair storyline. Phil and Stacey? Stacey likes older men but I'm not sure it would be believable.

It's not really an affair storyline but I would love to see Max and Belinda together. They'll make a great power-couple, in my opinion. .

In all seriousness I think the next one will be Steven and Johnny and it would be hugely popular on DS.

I loved the Christian and Syed story, but the 'affair' aspect was probably the least compelling part of it. I never really cared about Amira finding out, I was way more interested in Zainab and Masood finding out and the religious/community aspect as well. I mean, Zainab's finding out is genuinely one of the best moments on EE for me- it was so brilliantly acted. I'd say it was more of a coming out story focusing on religion that happened to involve an affair rather than an 'affair' storyline as such.

So while I agree Syed and Christian's story was great, I'd agree with the OP that Stacey and Max was the last great 'affair' storyline because the affair part of Christian/Syed was kind of the least interesting bit.

How did the spectacular Who Shagged Kat affair slip your mind? That was TV gold.

I loved Kat/Random Shadow AKA Back of Head so much. My OTP for sure.

That was boring, all three of them were portrayed as horrible people so it lacked any substance

I've always thought an interesting spin on an affair story would be a married woman having sex with a younger girl, behind her husbands back.

Heres my idea for a good affair. Vincent and Belinda. Kim opens up a Weaving/Hair shop opposite Elysium giving Belinda some competition over time the ladies become enemies and Kim warns Vincent to stay away from Belinda but instead they grow closer together and have an affair then it's all revealed on Christmas day it can be a Fox-Hubbard Christmas Vincent tells Kim the truth about the affair. Denise goes into Labour and Claudette and Patrick get into a row over Vincent's behaviour and she knocks him out.

for an affair to be good it has to be realistic and reasonable, just chucking two characters for the sake of an affair never works, all decent affairs are a product of genuine attraction between two characters.

When Stacey initially returned, I had this down as a definite! Not even sure why, just something about their interaction in her first few scenes back.

I think it would be a disgrace to the integrity of the show

I'm so shocked that Stacey and Mick never happened. I assume their initial scenes back in 2014 was just because they were allowing their new 'big star' Mick welcome their old 'big star' Stacey back into the show.
