Rishi's cheese and ham sandwich

Was that a genuine faux pas or intentional? I was expecting Rishi to explain to Kerry that he didn't eat ham.

Why doesn't Rishi eat ham?

Wait, is this rude?

Oh, I didn't get the impression that the Sharma's were practicing muslims? Or religion of any kind.

I think they're Hindu not Muslim, but still not devout.

I think it was mentioned round about the time of Priya's wedding, but I don't know if there are meat restrictions. I would think maybe beef would be frowned on. Aren't cows sacred? That might be a myth.

I have no idea I'm afraid, studied it in primary school but that would have been almost 20 years ago (which is a horrible thought) and don't remember anything except a little about diwali.

Some Hindus eat meat as do some Muslims. So I can't imagine it was a mistake.

Will Rishi's sandwiches get a trademark here like Lauren from Eastenders did?

All the Asian characters in ED are Hindu but not devout.

They may be devout just not seen worshiping, we don't see much of their lives other than dramas.

They are indeed Hindus and really we have no idea how devout they are as there aren't any obvious signs as there would be with Muslims such as abstaining from Alcohol. It's like a lot of viewers assume Dev in Corrie is a lapsed Muslim because he drinks but actually he is Hindu so he is allowed to.

That said, I don't think that any of them have had Hindu wedding services, just civil ones which might indicate that they aren't devout. Priya did have one planned with Rakesh but it was called off at the last minute.

As it happens, there is no specific banning of eating any specific animals in Hinduism (unlike Judaism or Islam) but non violence to all animals is central to the faith and for that reason, many Hindus choose to eat a vegetarian diet so no animal has to be killed for their diet. But it is an individual choice rather than a commandment.

Thanks kit Kat for the insight. That does explain a lot.😁
