Now that salsa, I do appreciate.

Maybe that's the next big plot, Kyle's cooking class as he struggles to master the mexican dishes.

As long as they get a mariachi band too!

Ive been missing episodes for a while now. The poor quality is nothing new. I'll probably skip a couple next week because of the whole Grant, Mark, Courtney thing. Like Kathy's return from the dead this is something they should not have tackled if they couldn't come up with something amazing.

Despite what people say about DTC I've not enjoyed the Carter's at all these past few years. An awful lot of their material has been forced and unnatural.

In fact they are my least favourite family on the show. I liked Nancy and Johnny as stand alone characters but the rest do nothing for me. I've always been surprised by people claiming they were so great. I much prefer the Beales, Brannings and Mitchells. Now the Fowlers are my fave. I love Martin and Stacey. I hope they move into Pat's house with Bex when Sonia leaves.

Last night was bad but it's hopefully just a one off, next week looks very good.

I don't think it comes down to preferences. You can dislike characters but appreciate a good s/l well acted and be honest enough to admit when your favourites are carp.

This week has been poor, and last night was one of the worst in a while. It put that whole bad patch in June as a drama highlight!!

Shakil and Bex - yawnnnnnn, the pregnancy plot with Denise would be better if she blurted it out as opposed to a test at the bottom of the dustbin cliche. Martin/Stacey and the Mitchells especially Ben/Phil/Jay were the highlights of the trash.

I'd rather have character driven drama like Dean's trial verdict episodes with a limited cast, that plays to the actors strength's (we all know Sam and Rita are great performers with the right material) than silly storylines. Even the bit with the extras/youths having the party at the NuFowlers (Please give Martin and Stacey more storylines) was contrived!

I am even thinking of skipping tonight's as it's Kim and her salsa class.

A part of me is thinking SOC is another Newman or even another Hutchinson.

This week has been the last of Dominic Treadwell Collins material playing out. From Monday all content is produced by Sean O'Conner. This Morning confirmed this so its good to now have it official. I know there had been some debate about when SOCs stuff starts. Now we know its Monday.

Seems like TPTB have made sure that this went announced on TV this morning because of all the criticism the show is receiving on various soap forums and social media.

Slightly off subject, I wonder what happens to the show if SOC doesn't manage to turn things around, is it in genuine danger of being axed?

This week in particular has been absolutely appalling.

Glad to see SOC's work will be on screen from next week, because this summer has been the worst in a long time.

Kellie Bright is a great actress but I don't rate Danny Dyer at all. Most of his emotional scenes are just awkward. imho

DTC was seen as EEs saviour so its that they are now publicly announcing today is his last piece of work on the show! have they ever done this before?

Fresh and interesting characters leave without being given proper chances to to flourish. While others remain there for years going around in circles. Most of the time now when they bring in new characters they are 2 dimensional or the writers use them as a pet project for some agenda or other.

That's why I just read the spoilers now and watch if it sounds interesting. However, I don't always read the spoilers anymore.

There is currently about 7 characters I am only remotely interested in. So will soon be walking away from it for good.

Spoiler
just interested to see how the new boss execute's Ronnie and Roxy's exit storyline. That will be a big indicator on how things are going.

In a way you're better off when your favourites leave. Sometimes it's better to go out with a bang rather than have your character fade away in a sea of mediocrity.

Yeah i love Janine and I'm relieved DTC never got the chance to work with her this time around as no doubt he would have had her doing something so OTT to the point it ruined her.

I think the statement being put out the SOC's work last week also seems a sly dig at DTC and his team, though they are embarrassed at what has been put out this last 6 months.

Fair to say that DTC was sacked from his role then, can't see why else he wouldn't see out the last 2-3 months before SOC took over. Can't ever remember a producer leaving without the new one taking over straight away, give or take a week or two.

I don't mind boring patches in the summer. As someone said above you can't constantly hit out high quality drama but even the supposedly high octane stuff hasn't done much for me lately.

In theory Next Week should be amazing. All the characters you mention have notable pedigrees and I should be excited about seeing Grant's children but the half arsed way they've been shoved in just doesn't cut it.

I think the maximum any exec producer should do is two years. All of the recent ones that stayed longer than that seemed to have completely run out of ideas by their third year, and we get utter dross on screen as a result. DTC apparently announced his intention to leave in summer 2015 but stayed on another 9 months to oversee Peggy's exit. This is why the show is in such a state now.

To be fair to him I don't think he was sacked. Didn't he move onto Redwater?

Peggy's exit episode was great but the rest of it apart from Grant's first return hasn't been up to much. Potentially great ideas poorly executed. As per.

Gawd Im a right miserable cow today aren't I?!

Gavin obviously. And we would have found out that Janine dumped her secret child on the Eurostar on her way to visit Diane in Paris.
