Corrie - "Signposting" this Eva and Maria thing
Just catching up with Corrie, and it's really annoying me.
So Maria sleeps with Aiden, then all of a sudden Evas best friends with Maria. Then the whole "Oh my god I love punching things, I just love to punch!" scene in in the gym. And Eva telling everyone what a lovely girl Maria is. It's obvious where it's heading, to a bitter betrayal storyline between Eva and her "Best friend" and Boyfriend. Also, Michelle and Leanne are suddenly really close now, and she keeps talking about Nick and Leanne, and how she's got a baby buddy, It's just so contrived ![]()

Corrie love their contrived plots. The whole Eva being Maria's no.1 fangirl is so annoying, same goes for Michelle/Leanne hanging out and discussing babies.

The whole program has been very 'lowest common denominator' for years. The more banal and mundane the better seems to be TPTB's goal, with plot points made painstakingly obvious for weeks.

It's been a curse of Corrie for several years now MrsM!!
They seem to have lost the ability to set up a storyline for a few weeks beforehand which is strange given how many more episodes there is these days! To be fair it looked like they were going to start up the whole Eva/Maria friendship a few weeks ago when all the girls were socialising through the bellydancing classes but then they dropped it & instead have had to frantically scratch together a few scenes to try & make it realistic!! The Leanne/Michelle thing is far worse imo, given that in the 10 years Michelle has been on the Street relations between these two has been frostily polite at best, barring a very brief period whrn Leanne got Michelle a job in the Bookies, yet now we are meant to believe Michelle wants to be best buddies just because the Corrie writers want it to happen for a given s/l!! We really shouldn't be surprised as they did precisely the same thing with Michelle & Carla!! |

As you and priscilla have said, this is standard Corrie fodder these days.
Friendships and relationships plucked out of thin air and then a predictably 'explosive', 'gripping' and 'shock' storyline thrust upon the characters involved. Must try harder. |

Also, you're being very generous calling it "signposting" mrsm
![]() To me, signposting is the gentle and subtle highlighting of a future storyline within an existing plot achieved through clever and nuanced writing. Corrie tends to prefer the slapped round the face with a bag of frozen peas method... |

It is rather strange Eva/Maria and Leanne/Michelle becoming best buds just for the sake of the storyline. Leanne and Michelle have shared scenes in the past but never been THAT close.
I'm more interested in Leanne and Maria once the truth is out with Eva. I hope once Leanne's given birth, she gives Maria one of her 2004 fights

Loved the scenes from 2004 when Leanne went to get her hair done by Maria (with Maria not knowing who Leanne was) and led her into slagging off Nick's ex wife ![]() Alas, Leanne was a different character back then. |

Corrie don't do subtlety. Every act of infidelity is done with the sole intention of it leading to a huge showdown on discovery. We already know that Eva will go berserk when she finds out Aidan slept with Maria and ditto Michelle with Leanne (in both cases, it was a drunken one night stand....they couldn't even be bothered to have the cheaters be in a relationship on the side).

The likely outcome of Eva finding out about Aiden shagging Dreary Maria could be this:
Eva gives the dreary one a single slap in full view of several other characters (probably in either the Rovers or the hairdressers), with Eva being pulled away and being told "Leave her, Eva. She isn't worth it!" Eva will also give Aiden a single slap Dreary Maria will go whining tearfully to Audrey: "Oooooh, Audreh! I've been so shhtoopid!!" Audrey will hug her, mutttering "Come here, luvvie, you silly girl!" Kirk will say something daft and unfunny, to "lighten the mood" |

Good point! I sometimes forget that Leanne and Eva are sisters. I wonder if Leanne would be as viciously loyal to Eva as she was to Toyah?

That was great, slagging off our Toyah right in front of Leanne and having no clue whatsoever.

Another thing that bugged me this week was Maria accidentally bumping into Caz, and then Caz having her bag stolen. I mean seriously, who steals off a homeless person, it's not that they've got any money!

The worst one for me was Phelan to whoever did Jason's van. "Thanks for torching the van!!" - right outside Eileen's front door..... as if he would say that - to me it shows how thick they think we are.

I feel the plots are linked however yes contrived with Michelle probably defending Maria and then finding out about leanne and then realising defending Maria in the same circumstance was wrong too. No doubt Michelle will stay with Steve when all said and done as she is a money hungry Hoe.

What is the betting that Leanne will be having the baby on Christmas Day, and Gail finds out that Nick is not the father

I'm not a big fan of Michelle but barring one occasion when she almost cheated on Steve but didn't go all the way she's one of the minutely few soap characters for whom loyalty to their partner actually seems to mean something!! The term Hoe would be far better suited to her feckless idiot of a husband!! |

Leanne will give birth in the floor of the Rovers at 11.55pm on Christmas Eve, possibly delivered by Michael or some other twit in shining armour.
