Corrie: Anyone find the Platts seriously annoying?
Kate Ford fan

I'm afraid I just find the whole lot of them massive pratts no pun intended. Fortunately Kate Oates seems to to be shifting the focus onto the original and much superior Barlow family judging by that press interview she gave a couple of weeks back.

Gail is an imbecile that we are supposed to laugh at.

Sarah is just a blond bimbo and is played by one of the most abysmal actresses on television.

David is a ludicrous character and his personally constantly changes tor suit the plot.

Bethany is supposed to be a 16 year old girl yet looks and sounds like a woman in their twenties. Completely ridiculous.

Kylie was the best character in that poor excuse of a family and made them semi bearable she was killed off thus completely ruling out a possible return. Makes absolutely zero sense to me.

The fact that some people are claiming that this family are carrying the show at the moment doesn't really day much more the current state of the show. Just awful.

While I don't dislike the Platts, what I do dislike is how they've had so many storylines lumped onto them over the past year, one after the other after the other.

They've had Callum's murder, Nick/Carla wedding, the Callum reveal, Sarah's psychosis, Bethany's bullying, Kylie's murder and David's revenge and now Nick and Leanne ... it's just too much.

Other characters are languishing in the sidelines crying out for a good storyline yet everything is given to the Platts. I guess there's an element of damage limitation because at least the majority of them (Helen Worth, Sue Nicholls, Tina O'Brien, Jack P Shepherd, Lucy Fallon, Paula Lane) are/were Corrie's strongest actors.

What's been worst for me is that storyline overkill has made me question the credibility of the show and its characters more than ever. Within days of Kylie being brutally murdered, Nick quite gleefully set about starting up a new business. While I don't want to watch week after week of a family's grief, scheduling this plot so soon after Kylie's murder was a poor move.

Funnily enough, I was looking back at some classic Corrie recently and it was really bought home to me what a great character Audrey was. Sue Nicholls played her to the absolute hilt. I know she is getting on but she is criminally underused now - I mean, she hasn't had her own outright storyline for literally decades and is usually just shoe-horned into the Platts latest family drama.

That is a real shame...

Having a dead body (and the father of Max no less) found buried on their premises should have been the end of the Platts in Weatherfield. In real life, the family would move out straight afterwards. And why aren't Gail, Nick and Bethany suspicious that David may have been involved? They all know he's unhinged, and the police pinning the blame on Tony wouldn't necessarily make them any less suspicious.

Absolutely! From the second Kylie clunked Callum around the head with the wrench the Platts' days in Weatherfield were numbered. In true Corrie style, however, any semblance of realism to the storyline was repeatedly chucked out of the window and some of us are still left wondering just how much we can believe in this family anymore.

In the real world it's most likely that No.8 would've been demolished after the discovery of the body. Not in Weatherfield, the Platts just go on living there happily ever after.

It would be just about plausible that they might remain living in the house if a random body that had been there for decades showed up. But Max's father?! The likes of Gail and Nick would have to be very suspicious too of the claim that it was all down to Tony and that nobody in the house knew a thing about it. I'm sure many people on the street would have their suspicions too.

Not really

But I loved them when Kylie was still in the show, I think she was the main reason I liked the Platts tbh

They're not nearly as good without her

I have always loathed Puny Platt. I have no issue with the others

Gail is OK, Nick(Tilsley) is bearable in very small doses. David (spit!), Sarah and Bethany can go hang. I like Audrey, but she's not a Platt (nor is Sarah strictly speaking). Gail's father was a bit of a non-event and Kylie was too awful for words.

Not family but I wouldn't mind seeing Suzie Birchall back again, although I know Cheryl Murray isn't well enough.

I feel like Nick isn't really part of the Platts, he's kind of like Marlon on Emmerdale, yeah he's a Dingle, but he doesn't act like them and barely has any interactions with them. Nick is rarely every involved in Platt drama and they rarely show him interacting with his siblings.

Interesting. For me, Nick is an absolute key member of the Platt family as Gail's hallowed firstborn. I agree that he isn't always shown mixing with the rest of the family, especially his siblings, but he's still an important figure within the family in my humble opinion.

I see 'Platt' as a catch all term for Audrey, Gail, Nick, Sarah, David, Bethany, Max, Lily and Harry, irrespective of whether they've actually had the surname Platt.

I agree Nick should be a key member of the family, he's not a distant cousin like Marlon is with the Dingles but Nick's interactions and relationship with the rest of the Platts is about on the the same level as Marlon's with the rest of the Dingles. I mean Bethany and Sarah have been back for over a year now and we really haven't gotten a sense of what his relationship is with them cuz he barely has any scenes with them.

I agree with you and it's so annoying that we don't see any interaction between Nick and the rest of his family. Frustratingly, that's just Corrie in general these days, Mark. We rarely get to see any characters interacting unless it directly links to a storyline.

Except for Maria, she is in every scene these days, Kate Oates is making her the Ross Barton of Corrie. I'm sure Maria will some how become involved is the Steve/Leanne baby mess, Phelan's apartment building scheme and save Bethany from her bully

Maybe she'll be revealed as Bethany's bully and Phelan's 'big boss'?

Yes and then she announce she's pregnant with Steve's baby as well.

Sarah makes being thick seem quite endearing. I prefer her to Kirk who takes pride in being dim and is not as funny as he seems to think he is.

The days of David & Gail playing cat & mouse seem to be over too.

I was probably a bit harsh on Sarah seeing as she was a great character between 2000-2004 but it has all been downhill since then.

Seeing as Sarah is my all time favourite Coronation Street character then no I've been enjoying every moment she's been on screen since she's returned and Tina O'Brien portrays her brilliantly in my opinion.

Bethany (originally) was annoying when she returned but now I like her and again Lucy Fallon is very good actress in my opinion.

Gail, Nick and Audrey I'm indifferent to.

David however I do find annoying I've never been a fan. (Jack P. Shepherd is a very good actor though)

I like most of the Platts actually. I like Gail, I like Sarah, like Audrey. David, Im not a huge fan of, but I respect his longevity in the show. The only one that really gets on my goat is Nick. Just something about the actor bothers me, his annoying laugh and the fact he looks like he's in his late 40's...looking more like David and Sarah's uncle rather than brother.

Nick has never been a Platt. Platt only comes from Martin Platt, David's dad. Nick is a Tilsley. Gail is a McIntyre. Why is this family referred to as The Platts?

Marlon is more on the outside of the Dingles. Nick is Gail's son so is a Platt even if it's not his last name

I like them, especially David. Although Gail's stupidity is grating, she is better at serious things.
