Have to say there is redemption for Shakil. The scene at Stacey's place when he spoke about a lack of a father figure in his life. Well acted IMO

He can do good when he wants. Till now i thought he was just a waste of character for the show

I really don't like him. I think he is a really dull character with no charisma whatsoever.

He's really unlikeable. I wanted to punch him in his gormless face when he kept calling Mark baldy. What a ****.

Is this character going to have a big storyline where they find out he has high functioning autism? He never looks anyone in the eye and seems socially awkward. I can't see why the actor would act like that unless if he was told to.

It's just bad acting. The actress who played Mick's daughter did the same thing.

Yes, a proper father figure would have stopped him having such very silly hair.

Shakil is the most authentic EastEnder on the square, demographically, culturally and socially. Literally representing a lot of youth living in the East End right now and if Julia Smith and Tony Holland were starting EE now, they'd cast a character like Shakil. Acting wise, I think Shaheen is doing a great job portraying him. He's completely different in real life, experience wise, class, culture, mentality, family background and other aspects:

Watching Shaheen in interviews and seeing his transformation into the character of Shakil shows how good of an actor he is with an authentic portrayal and complete emersion into the role, not being himself but totally bringing someone else to life on screen. Simply, acting.

Why? To satisfy a few whingers on DS, I'm damn sure I wouldn't

Besides his hair is neat and tidy not a mess at all the fact people on DS don't approve is irrelevant really

He would look better with short hair imo.

He would suit a hairstyle like Mark Jnr's.

You are of course entitled to your opinion and that is relevant, however, and I am not directing this at you (I actually think you're a decent poster) but I do find it amazing how somebody on here fixates on something in this case Shakil's hairstyle and everybody jumps on the bandwagon as if some posters struggle for an original thought.

I quite like him. It's always difficult with characters of that age, they can't use the language because it is

a) wouldn't be watershed friendly
b) a lot of the audience wouldn't know what he was saying (e.g kicks and trainers)

The writing then becomes cliched and seems a bit silly. He's not the worst character and at least has some depth to him

I'm pleased I'm not the only who likes him and I think there's a lot of scope for him
I didn't like him to begin with but he has grown on me as a character and I think he has improved recently. I didn't mind the Shakil-centric episodes, however, I hope they introduce his father soon.

Well said Aaron. I see nothing wrong with his hair. If the actor wears his hair like that why should he change it. I think it suits him.

I agree. It is incredibly tiresome and not remotely funny. Let's face it even in it's origin it wasn't funny. Actually if anything it's just a revelation of extreme conservatism.

I like Shakil and really cannot see much difference between him Louise, Courtney or Bex acting wise etc but just like Dexter before him he gets a load of negativity for some reason

He's not my favourite but he represents a type of teenager that is quite rife at the moment.

Shakil has been there 5 minutes. Carmel and kush are great.

Hopefully they won't be going anywhere.

I hope this producer actually has a plan aside from constant axings.

I have to admit, I've just been catching up after a week away and I didn't have him in that scene. I almost (only almost) quite liked him.
