EastEnders - Who remembers these trailers from 2001?

If I remember rightly, these would have been around the time EastEnders had just extended to 4 episodes a week, and Letitia Dean had returned as Shadon. Just these two clips remind you of just how massive the show actually used to be. Great cast and great storylines. Do you think it will ever be as big again?

The 'Everyone's talking about it' trailers were some of the best in soap.

There was a really interesting thread discussing soap trailers a couple of months ago.

I think that the first one of the 'ETAI' was from when Steve Owen killed Saskia?

Can't find it on YouTube but it's here on Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/55568376

Well, everyone was talking about it 1998-2002, so it probably was yes.

Wow, that's a fantastic trailer! EE used to be fantastic.

Yeah I think the first one was the Saskia one. They did loads of those in 1999. Matthew Robinson had just revamped the show and introduced sexy characters like Steve, Mel, Lisa and Jamie. EE went through a rebirth which in turn pretty much set the show up with top class material until 2002.

Love the bit where the cleaner rings out the cloth and then it cuts to rainy Walford

I remember the Kat/Zoe one but not the other one at all. What were they celebrating...and is there anywhere to watch the entire event?

Not sure what the budget is like at the BBC, but SOC should definately try and get some trailers going again.

Maybe put them on before/after Strictly, Sherlock, Graham Norton to entice lost viewers back?

We have to have good storylines first though. I doubt you could make a dramatic trailer for the rubbish going on atm.

The trailers were launched to promote Saskia Duncan's murder.

There was several other in a similar style throughout the year to promote Jamie as a heartthrob, Mel and Ian's will they won't they wedding, and Grant's exit.

Oh lol

I don't know where that is from. I assume that it was from some summer lunch party to promote EE going 4 times a week.

It's quite depressing to be reminded of how far EE has fallen! I remember the Saskia trailer, and it still holds up today. That was a great storyline and a great era for EE all round.

Those trailers are excellent! Love the Steve Owen one the best. IIRC they did one for Ian and Mel's wedding too, questioning whether she'd get married to him or not. The trailers are excellent though, as you do discuss soap storylines, well mostly.

He was a good character, wasn't too sure on his love story with Sonia but it was sad when he died. Read in an EE book somewhere where he is described as a cross between David Beckham and Leonardo DiCaprio. Lovely eyes

Last night's EE episode will be featured in sex education in schools, probably.

Rawwrrr Steve Owen looks so hot. Wish I had seen that era of the show. Who is the other sexy guy behind him at the end?

Oh I watched the other clip. Wow! is there anyway I can watch the whole storyline online?

Martin Kemp is gorgeous too

The other guy was Matthew Rose, who helped Steve to bury the body and I think he was the one who was sent down instead of Steve.

Try Dailymotion, an episode on there is the two hander showdown between Matthew and Steve in E20.

Do you mean the episode where Matthew had just got out of prison & he tied Steve up in E20 & doused him with 'petrol' & threatened to set the place on fire & then at the end of the episode he tells him it was just water! That was a cracker of an episode!

That's the one! Matthew also filmed himself in Steve's flat and pretended to put in place explosive lightbulbs that would kill Steve's sister Jackie.

Here'd the episode if anyone wants to see it! February 3rd 2000: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xlc...000_shortfilms
