HP Pavillion dv6760ea - warm around touch pad
Mad Hatter
02-09-2016
My lovely faithful laptop feels rather warm around the area of the touch pad and the keyboard.

There is very warm air coming out of a grid on the left hand side right at the back where there is a grid on a curve. It does sound noisy, as if the fan is working.

When I phoned the computer shop recently about something, the lady said the fan may need cleaning. Is it easy to clean the fan yourself? ( I did hoover the keyboard a while ago with the long tool on my Dyson).

My laptop is on a tray and raised by 3 plastic small square containers. So there are a couple of inches between the tray and the base of the laptop.

Maybe it is warm because of the weather? Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Ideally you should take the laptop apart to get at the fan and de-gunge it. It can suck in loads of dust and assorted crap over time so could easily be blocked up. Depends on how brave you are feeling!

You could try gently vacuuming out the vents which may suck out any accumulated dust. Or use a can of compressed air on the vents.

Blowing by mouth into the hot air outlet (laptop off) will push a lot of fluff to the intake.

You should be able to pick at it with fingers to remove it, or even tweezers.

But only if the air intake is visible, some laptops suck the cool air through the keyboard.

Thank you for your replies.

I could never feel brave enough to take my laptop apart! I have hoovered the area where the fan and vents are. I think it doesnt feel as hot now as it did but it might be my imagination.

I am not sure which area is the hot air outlet and intake.

I dread having to buy a new laptop. This one came with everything on it but now there isnt hardly anything on them is there. This has got Microsoft Works and Microsoft Office etc.

The hot air outlet is where warm/hot air is coming out when the laptop is on.

With the laptop closed, blow by mouth a few times in quick bursts into the grill of that hot air outlet.
Bits of fluff will appear on the underside of the laptop where another grill is.

Pick at these bits of fluff with fingers or tweezers.

Thankyou for pointing me in the right direction, I will give that area a good blow later and have my tweezers ready. Your help is much appreciated.
