When is Sky Q powerline being activated?
Occasionally the signal from my Sky Q silver / router drops to one or both of my mini boxes. I expect that powerline will solve this..but in the meantime it is not good when it drops with 15 mins to go on a football match !!
So...does anyone know when Sky are going to activate this powerline in the box? |

Just turn it on now. I've been using it for many months now with no issues.

I believe a software push is needed for Powerline to be live. Yes, you can switch it on in one of the menus. But without the software update it wont work.

It is not working through power line will be working through wifi regardless of wether it is switched on in the menu. It's like switching on the Ethernet but not having a cable connected it's pointless and will make no difference to how the system runs.

There seems to be some oddness surrounding this now.
I had it working and it worked perfectly for many other people before the last update with Sky even putting out a statement saying they know people are using it, but they won't support it. Now it seems the boxes force wifi back on even though you turn it off on both boxes like i have. That being said, some people including me think it still works. My reason is we had really bad cut out's before turning it on. Now it's on, the mini works flawlessly with no cut out's. |

Lets hope they never activate it. PLT is bad technology that causes interference to other users of the RF spectrum. Imagine the problems if all Q users used it. I strongly suspect this is why sky has not activated it.

Just wondering, if you use the powerline instead of wifi will the minis then not act as hotspots?

Given that many households are already using PLT technology (either purchased themselves or supplied by BT with their TV packages), I don't think widespread adoption of Q will make that much difference. I don't think the average household is negatively affected by PLT use in their area either... |

If it's that bad, why on earth would they have put the necessary hardware for it into the boxes in the first place?
![]() Where Winston claims it WILL cause interference, the actuality is that it MAY cause interference in an incredibly small number of cases, under certain specific circumstances. The actual number of confirmed cases is incredibly small, and there are millions of the devices already in use. The tiny number of complaints all come from Radio Hams and SWL's, and only a tiny percentage of those have had any problems - with many Radio Hams even using PLT's themselves. |

It isn't that bad, Winston has a 'bee in his bonnet' about the technology, and routinely posts his deliberately misleading comments every time it's mentioned.

OK done a bit of testing there and the powerline does indeed still work. Sky must not have disabled it in the last update.
Basically what i did was turn wifi off on both boxes then check. Powerline still worked. Disconnected the Q hub and it still worked. Checked using a wifi scanner on my Android phone and there was no wifi signal in my house anywhere detected and the mini still worked. Moved the mini into a room where there is no wifi signal in the house and using wifi, no signal on box. Turn powerline on and works no problem. |
