It isn't that bad, Winston has a 'bee in his bonnet' about the technology, and routinely posts his deliberately misleading comments every time it's mentioned.

Where Winston claims it WILL cause interference, the actuality is that it MAY cause interference in an incredibly small number of cases, under certain specific circumstances. The actual number of confirmed cases is incredibly small, and there are millions of the devices already in use.

The tiny number of complaints all come from Radio Hams and SWL's, and only a tiny percentage of those have had any problems - with many Radio Hams even using PLT's themselves.
Wrong. PLT causes interference and raises the noise floor in each and every case. As a radio ham I assume you took a technical exam which would include interference issues, so you must know this.

What a load of absolute twaddle.
So what authority do you have to deny the laws of physics. There is plenty of info on the web re the problems of PLT.

Would an engineer be able to identify whether PLT was actually the cause of the problem?
Most definitely. That is how Ofcom have traced and removed many PLT installations over the years.

And yet their engineers have allowed many, many more PLT installations to remain in place and for PLT products to be sold.

Only a VERY tiny number have caused any problems, and only a small number of those have 'been removed' - Winston doesn't help his obsession by making completely wild exaggerations all the time.

No, every PLT installation adds to the noise floor so add to the problems. Please remove your head from the sand.

Not their job.

Ofcom don't make the law and the law says it is legal to sell PLT. The law also says it is illegal to create interference and this is where Ofcom act when there is a complaint.

Unless every Ofcom complaint results in PLT being removed, that must mean that Ofcom consider some PLT installations are acceptable....

They consider almost ALL are acceptable, as it's EXTREMELY rare for them to cause any problems - I suspect the tiny number that do may well be down to faults, such as failed capacitors in the switch-mode PSU feeding it.

OK done a bit of testing there and the powerline does indeed still work. Sky must not have disabled it in the last update.

Basically what i did was turn wifi off on both boxes then check. Powerline still worked.

Disconnected the Q hub and it still worked.

Checked using a wifi scanner on my Android phone and there was no wifi signal in my house anywhere detected and the mini still worked.

Moved the mini into a room where there is no wifi signal in the house and using wifi, no signal on box. Turn powerline on and works no problem.
The mini has it's own private mesh to the Q box (as well as taking other routes) and therefore this doesn't confirm that Powerline is actually working for you

Actually it does. The fact no wifi network shows up when scanning for one shows it is working.

Even if it was broadcasting a hidden SSID, i would still see something. But there isn't anything. The mesh shows up anyway when doing a scan with the wifi on. Just for clarification, when i turn my wifi off, no others show as i live in a house away from others so don't pick up any stray networks.

I take it you also ignored the bit where i said i took the mini into a room which never gets a wifi signal and without the powerline on, it didn't work?

I don't understand why this is such an issue for you anyway, Have Sky ever came out and said they turned it off anyway? They did however make a post in their forums to say they know people use it, but won't support it.

I can also confirm it does work if turning it on. I also disabled all 2.4 and 5 gig traffic from all boxes. Reset them and it worked fine after a reboot. Scanning wifi networks showed no connections apart from next door which is normal. I usally have my 4 Q hotspots and next doors showing on wifi analyser but wasnt the case with PLC sitched on.

Sky have also added the Powerline option back into the Q hub menu with the latest firmware update a couple of days ago.

According to the pinned post at the top of the page (software updates) it has for the 2TB box:

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showt...0#post84881518

Fixes for this release Q003.001.45.00L (4lvm0pw) include;

- Addresses an issue affecting 1TB Sky Q boxes where no sound could be heard when connected to certain models of Samsung TV.
- Addresses an issue where the box may crash under certain situations when watching Online Videos.
- Resolves an issue when pairing a Sky Q Touch remote with a Q box where an on screen message would be displayed advising that pairing had been unsuccessful despite the pairing having completed successfully.
- Resolves an issue where a green screen is displayed when the Q box starts up.
- Resolves an issue where a Q box would switch in to standby randomly.
- Addresses certain situations which would cause a Sky Q Mini box to reboot.
- The Sky logo displayed in the bottom left of the Sky Q Guide had been updated to the new corporate style.

Powerline has been turned to On for the Sky 2tb boxes, but still set to off for the Mini.

Powerline has always been usable. It's still not officially supported though.
