Three or EE - Genuinely unsure!

Hello all,

I was wondering if you could offer some advice. I have just got married and looking to streamline our mobile contracts and data sims.

We currently have two iPhones and two iPads. One of the iPhones is on EE and I'm looking towards moving that to a SIM only plan. The other iPhone I am going to upgrade in September/October. The other two data SIMS for the iPads are on Three.

I am debating whether to move everything onto Three or EE. I have been with Three from about five years now and they have been generally good apart from some slow data speeds on certain cities and signal dead spots in some places I visit as there is no 2G fall back. I used to have The One Plan so had unlimited data for a reasonable price but I'm quite surprised at how high the prices have climbed for AYE data on Three when I looked today!

I looked at the EE family plans where you can all share the data and this seems like a good set up. I am hoping that 20gb of data will be enough for all those devices. The big drawback to moving from Three would be losing features like 'Feel at Home' which has come in very useful during holidays. I think EE would work out the cheapest.

I'd value your thoughts on this. I have heard mixed things about EE and Three. I had an issue with an upgrade with Three a few years ago but apart from that things have been fine. They gave me a box to boost signal at my house too.

What would you recommend?

I'm on Three and happy, the bonus is not having to watch data usage if you're on an unlimited plan, plus you can have lots of tethering like 30GB. I find their network to work even in low signal, pages to load very fast and reliability is good.

You're right though, if there's no 3G you don't get 2G, however that does mean you don't get stuck on 2G when there might be weak 3G around.

EE generally costs a little bit more, but in return you get faster and more widespread 4G, but you often get capped data, so it depends how much data you need / want and whether your usage will vary a lot.

I'm off to Spain shortly and like home will be a welcome freebie too.

Swings and roundabouts really, you'll get people on this forum recommending both.

Do you need AYCE data? If not then EE becomes an option otherwise it has to be Three. As you have existing lines with both networks then you are in a strong position to play them off against each other - work out what you want and phone them up and drive a hard bargain. EE have had some great deals for second lines recently, you may be surprised if 20gb of data is enough.

I have just unlocked a Vodaphone and in process of unlocking an iPhone, both to 3.

These phones are for very low users using next to no data on the payg 321 .

Three for me. Don't want too many people joining as I get amazing speeds and more that enough for Netflix and YouTube out and about. With super voice it works even inside a lot more. Just came back from cinema. Misses on EE and no signal at all I had 2 bar 4G 800LTE. Whatsapp and websites were all loading fine!

Err, why would you want to use your phone inside a cinema?

Before the film I was messaging people on whatsapp. Phone went off when film started but it was just to confirm that the low 800 frequency is working and I'm happy with it!
