James Bye is a really good actor but he just doesn't seem like Martin Fowler, does anyone think James Alexandrou will return down the line after James Bye leaves?

James Bye has made Martin into a good, interesting character, something I never found him before. So, no, hopefully James Bye is Martin now 'cos he's fantastic.
who says James Bye will leave? tho he prob will at some point.
I would prefer a new re-cast if he did. Don't get me wrong I liked the original I just think no point going backwards

He has well and truly moved on from EastEnders and I doubt he would consider returning nor would he be asked again.
James Bye has made the role his own. I never really was fussed about Martin before. Now he's one of my favourite characters.

I'm hoping that James Bye stays in the role for a long, long time.

I get what you mean, but in a way there's no point. Bye has kind of made his own mark on Martin and although there are clear differences it's not bad enough for him to be axed because of it. Having said that, I do prefer James Alexandrou as Martin but Bye is doing a decent job.
James A will always be Martin Fowler to me. He worked with the greats like Wendy Richard and Todd Carty and was a very prominent character who we watched grow up on the square. I think if James B quits then there could be a chance James A will be back some day, at least I like to think so. It happened with the character of Sam Mitchell and she was a popular character so it could happen with Martin.
I like James Bye too but I can't help think of him as a different character. I find it hard to think of this Martin and Sonia ever being together in the past. They don't work well together when they are in scenes together. I guess that's not a big deal though as their not together anymore. On the plus side I think him and Stacey are very well matched.
I like James Bye but he just isn't Martin Fowler. James Alexandrou was the one who shared scenes with Pauline and Mark and he was also in the role for 10 years.

Where Sonia and Martin (recast or not as both actors are quite good looking) ever a particularly believable couple? Without coming across as shallow he always seemed way out of her league.

Sonia was able to pull Jamie Mitchell so getting either of Martins to sleep with her should be no problem.

He's far superior to James Alexandrou
James Bye IS Martin Fowler he's made the role his own.
The other Martin was boring, dull and uninteresting.
