So with all the departures the main cast will be

Kathy
Sharon
Ian
Dot
Martin
Steven
Phil
Ben
Billy
Bex
Patrick
Belinda
Louise
Jane
Stacey
Honey
Denise
Max
Abi
Lauren
Shirley
Jay
Jack
Whitney
Kim
Tina
Mick
Johnny
Babe
Donna
Kush
Vincent
Claudette
Carmel
Kyle
Shakil

So 36 main characters, that's going to put a lot of pressure from n the remaining cast and morale will be at a low with all the departures and the uncertainty of those whose contracts will be up for renewal.

Casting new characters will take time, I hope SOC isn't rushing into anything. Getting rid of characters and replacing them with even duller ones won't work.

More axings needed. If SOC is smart he will have every actor draw straws, and whoever gets the short straw packs Shakil's things and escorts him immediately from the Elstree premises.

Trouble is that a lot of the characters left are even more dull than the ones leaving. Then there's a few that are nearing burn out. I've no idea how he can make the show interesting again character wise.

I feel the list neds rearranging into alphabetical order.

if we believe the oracle a few more will be axed yet

did you intentionally miss Cora?

a few of the leavers will still be there into next year so plenty of time to find new characters

That just makes me think of how few of the characters I actually like/find interesting these days. For a relatively small cast, there feels like there's a lot of deadwood there. And even quite good characters like Jay and Denise feel directionless even when given storylines.

Hmm. SOC has his work cut out. Good luck to him.

If you look at the dates of introduction of each character, it shows just how dire periods of Eastenders were... there isn't a single 'surviving' character from the period between the arrival of Kim (2009) until Tina (2013).

Contrast that to the batch of characters that arrived between 2004-2008 and are still around - Stacey, Honey, Max, Whitney, MyLauren, Abi, Jack, Denise, the Shirley creature, Jay, McBeale.

I'd still be happy to say goodbye to: Steven, Johnny, Donna and Shakil.

I'd like to see Kyle's Mum back (Alison) with his mentioned sisters, Siobhan and Shannon. It would create a much stronger Slater unit.

Perhaps a couple of Claudette's foster children would be interesting too. A few complex individuals.

I am still standing by my theory due to the BBC cuts, we will see a smaller show. Unless we get a new family or even someone in them flats, we don't know.

Don't want to be the prophet of doom, but remember Brookie started like this before it's slow death.....

Does this mean Sonia will turn into a gangster and Tina will fall in love with Carol?

A regular character who hasn't been seen in almost a year and we have had no confirmation as to when she will be back. If she does come back it could just be in a recurring capacity.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of DTCs characters get he heave ho from SOC too. I mean the likes of Shakky and Donna are badly developed.

I think there will be a surprise or two with maybe Dot and Jane leaving soon.

There's room for at least one new family.

JB makes a good point that the cast is virtually free of any characters from the Santer/Kirkwood/Newman eras. Denise, Jay, Shirley, Honey, Max, Lauren and Abi are all pre-Santer. Just goes to show how weak the characters introduced in the last decade have been. I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of DTC's characters were written out too.

I'm on holiday so not gong to argue about this .

She is a regular until TPTB decide otherwise.

Is that okay with you?
