Recently it was the announcement of Ronnie's exit that has devastated me. But historically, Pauline Fowler's death left a massive hole in the show, Dirty Den's was also upsetting as he was such a huge character.

Soap character exits don't devastate me, including my favourites, as I don't take soaps seriously - to me they're just a bit of entertainment after a hard day at work. Actually make that soap not soaps as Emmerdale is the only one I watch now. If the actor dies in real life I feel a bit sad though. Shirley Stelfox is a case in point and Edna was a great character.

Ronnies exit has devastated you

I did not know she was that popular

I think maybe Mike Baldwin or Brendan Brady, as they were two iconic characters

Oh i think the one that i was really devastated about was Blanche Hunt who was one of the best soap characters ever

And also a special mention to Deirdre Barlow as well

I was gutted whenever Frank Butcher or David Wicks left EE.

However, i was devastated when Brendan Brady left HO. He is probably my most favourite soap Character ever.

EE felt very flat for me when all the Watts and Kat left in 2005. It's never really been the same since but I think that's also because some of their best writers went onto bigger things.

The decimation of the Watts family and the re-killing of Den was a massive faux-pas and should never be forgiven.

JR Ewing in New Dallas will forever be the ultimate devestating one for me. Not only had the character died but so had the actor. I had grown up with ol' JR. It was a real end of an era.

Emmerdale has had a few actors die on the job. All very sad but the most for me were Seth and Turner as characters. Seth's death I found also troubling as I had met and chatted with Stan Richards just a month before he died.

EastEnders - if I had been watching at the time, both Den Watt's exits I would of found saddish.

Also in EE Pat. I stopped watching again not long after that. I only started dippining in and out again when Kathy returned.

Re EE, I found Glenda's exit sad. For once in her life she had done the right thing, yet she got punished for something Phil and Shirley had done. I felt that there was still milage in Glenda at the time she was axed. With Ronnie leaving over the baby swap, Roxy could of done with her mother around as well. I am only sad about Ronnie and Roxy's departure because it means no more Glenda. Although they sort of did give Glenda a long overdue ending in May - albeit an unsatisfactory one. As to Ronnie, her time has come and I don't really think she should of come back after her last exit. As to Roxy, I think they could of done more with her but the writers never let her develop away from Ronnie for too long.

Coronation Street - Deirdre Barlow was a biggy. Mike Baldwin, Linda Baldwin and Kylie Platt. Although in Kylie's case I can see that for creative purposes killing her off was probably for the best. She didn't leave any unfinished business and her story was told. I will miss her though.

Falcon Crest - Pamela Lynch.

Prisoner: Cell Block H - quite a few.

I generally only feel saddened by characters departures if the actor dies (that is devestating); they are longterm legendary characters or they leave lose ends.

None.

Real life is devastating not television.

But the one which annoys me to this day is the second killing of the greatest male character in the soap's history Den Watts.

Sally Fletcher. She's the same age as me and it felt like we grew up together. To see her come full circular, discover more about her childhood and leave happy after everything she had been through was really emotional. I don't think it's been the same since she's left

I will agree with those who say Blanche & Deirdre because of the circumstances, particularly with Deirdre/Anne who was taken far too young!!

From the point of view of being emotionally devastating to watch Ernie Bishop, Liam Connor, Lisa Duckworth & of course our Kylie all spring readily to mind!!

I cried so much when she died she was my fav soap character ever. When Paula Lane said she was pregnant again and leaving again I had a really bad feeling she would get killed off and I was right

Fatboy

He was my fav EastEnders character. I stopped watching EastEnders after he was crushed to death it's all just doom and gloom anyway

Hayley Cropper

So sad! Roy and Hayley were like David and Kylie, only death would rip them apart

I was really sad when Craig Dean left Hollyoaks the first time. Great exit, though.

I was also pretty gutted when Brendan Brady went, at least partly because they made such a royal hash up of his exit, which was crap.

On ED, I've been sad that Val's gone - she's left a big gap. And Edna. And Declan. And (and I know he's not a big character) Robbie. I was absolutely gutted that they killed off Robbie. I really liked him.

I have not generally been upset that much about a actor/actress leaving but as a storyline....Ethel's last scene broke my tiny heart, i remember the whole family was watching that and even my brother who is a bit of a "hard man" was in tears.

Most emotional ones for me were....

Pat's death on Eastenders
JR's death on Dallas
Digby's death on Holby City

All three had me in floods of tears

I wouldn't say I was devastated after the actual exits of my favourites although the episodes themselves moved me.

Brendan Brady, Pat Butcher and Jack Duckworth in corrie were the most emotionally moving episodes to me.

Sally in home and away leaving was a lovely exit

BIB: I agree with you wholeheartedly. I just don't understand people who cry when they're favourite character leaves a soap, even if they're killed off. If they are like this over a fictional death god knows how they'd cope if a real person they were close to died. It's all a matter of perspective.

I have cried at soap episodes

Jack's death in corrie made me blubber like a baby. However after the episode ended it was the end of that

My beautiful Katie Addyman BRUTALLY MURDERED BY THAT BARSTEWARD SUGDEN,
I thought i'd watch her grow old in Emmerdale.
Just too sad to watch it without her.
