Not sure that she was actually leaving, I heard she wanted time off to do another Karin Young play tour. Sammy Winward also only wanted a break.
Kate Oates wouldn't know how to be sad, not about another person.
There is no need at all for those remarks about Kate Oakes. Hiring and firing is all a part of showbiz life. We should keep our opinions to all things soaps good or bad and leave out personal attacks on people we know next to nothing about.

I was not at all devastated at Emmerdale's Katie Sugden plumetting through that rickety flooring to her doom.

Nikhil Sharma moving to Canada, however......

Nikhil a man who's idea of a fun day out was going for a 10 mile run. Personality of an empty fridge.

Pat in EastEnders was really sad

Danielle was the worst though as I felt I had wasted my time watching that story because Deidrick Santa thought he was too clever for everyone, it also lead to Ronnie the "tragic heroine"

Jack Sugden in Emmerdale, Trisha too

Are you thinking of Philip Matheson (Steven's uncle), because Bobby died in a boat collision and Alan died of a brain aneurysm?
Yes you're right. I had mixed up the back stories of Alan and Philip, but it was Philip's death that I thought was fairly hard-hitting at the time. I'm well over it now obviously, as I couldn't even remember the character's name or who he was related to properly! Ah the healing powers of time

Uh oh unpopular opinion time!

I know this character divided a lot of folks but (and this is all just IMO) I was quite sad when Emmerdale's Cameron Murray was killed off. Personally I thought he was actually quite interesting but despite my best hopes deep down inside I knew he was a gonna once he killed Carl King and became a Serial Killer. But then that's just me.

Spoiler

Who knows? They could've made him the honorary Village Grim-Reaper or something and evantually kill off that irritant Marlon when his time comes but hey that's way too much out of the realm of reality I guess!

And now I'm just getting silly, I'll shut up now!

Edit: Just to quickly add I also didn't like that fact they killed off Carl King and to make it worse they made him horrendously out of character in their pathetic attempt to justify it!

Cameron turned into a great character but they did the right thing by killing him off with a classic story.
It is best to leave the auduance wanting more rather than drag things out too long until viewers become bored. The chlling way he killed Gennie will live long in the memory.

At least Katie left a bit of a footprint in the village. The Sugden saga from Jack being shot to Robron. Viv and Terry being killed because of the mad cop.
Nikhil had a nice relationship with Gennie and David but that's aboutit. He was irrelevant and not part of anything significant that ever happened. He was just there and when gone it was like he was never there.
Sweet for some and someone to fap over for others.

Oh don't get me wrong I understand why he needed to go due to Soap Serial Killing characters having a shelf life but I was still sad about it.

And you're right he's become a very memorable character in his own right (who could forget him killing Gennie?! Admittedly Gennie annoyed me but my God no one deserves THAT, so disturbing! Plus the way he killed Alex was creepy as well) not to mention the brilliant Siege Arc! What an awesome way to go!

I loved Cameron too or Jerseyboy as Cain used to refer to him. It really got to me with Val died last year. Poor Eric I just love his character. Would hate anything to happen to him. He and Ashley are two of the best actors on ED

As a viewer who watches all the main soaps and sees them for what they are - fictional, I have never been devastated by the demise of any character. However, David Essex .......... !

I found Nikhil a very likeable and entertaining character. He struck me as one who could easily have become a staple of the show, had the actor wanted to stay. He could have had a long term future. Because I liked him I was interested in following his life. Characters like Cameron are fun in the short term but you don" t really invest in them.

Devastated is probably too strong a word for me but for me the permanent exits that I really didn't like were:

EE:
Fatboy - just the nature of it. So unnecessary to see one of the fundamentally decent characters have such an unpleasant end.

Michael Moon - such a great character and I think the best was yet to come. I know the actor wanted out but now there's no potential for him to change his mind.

Corrie:
Kylie - The fact that I still liked the character after the horrendous writing to cover her maternity leave showed just how good Paula Lane is.

Rob - such a good pairing with Tracy, I think it was a massive mistake to have him as Tina's murderer as there's no way back for him.

Chloe dying on H&A simply for shock value still annoys me to this day.

What he could have become is irrelevant. It"s what he was that counts. Yes a perfectly decent chap but at the end of the day he's one of hundreds of soap characters who pass through their respective soaps and beyond some people liking them, they never made a blind bit of difference one way or another to anything significant that happened in their soap.

I don"t agree. Nikhil and characters like him, the ones who, regardless of their personality, have some long term potential are the ones you want to invest in. The serial killers come and go.

I wouldn't say I was ever devastated, but maybe just a bit sad.

From EE:
-Janine's first exit back in 2004. Loved the scene when she was caught with the money by the police, but it was sad to see a great character leave.

Home & Away:
I really liked the walker's so it was a shame when Sid, Indi and Dexter all left. As well as Ruby and Charlie and also Nicole Franklin.
