CS: Sarah Doesn't Look Old Enough To Be A Mum

Her and Bethany look like sisters according to my girlfriend.

I have to agree.. she never ages !

Agree to a point, facially she doesn't age a lot!!

Consiedring there's only 13 years between them & Sarah has retained her youthful looks, though I don't see it as that out of the ordinary!! Bethany is 16 but many 16 year olds could, and do, pass for a lot older!!
I know quite a few real life cases where Mother & daughter could pass for sisters!!
Imo Sarah & Bethany are great as mother & daughter & both actresses play their parts well!!

This thread comes up every couple of months! They do look more like sisters though!! Not entirely unrealistic as she had Bethany at 13?

The actress that plays Bethany is 20 and Sarah only looks mid 20's so they look very out of place as mother and daughter.

Isn't that the point really? She did have Bethany at 13. Some siblings have bigger age gaps than that.

Sarah still looks like a teenager to me! Very young looking.

Both actresses are a little older than their characters, but the age gap is still correct.

It wasn't long ago that Tina was playing a 6th former on Waterloo Road.

As everybody has said, there is only 13 years between them which really is a very short period of time so it isn't surprising that they look more like sisters than mother and daughter. Plus of course, the fact that most 16 year olds look older than they are with make up.

Everybody brings up Lucy Fallon being older than Bethany but remember Tina O'Brien is also older than Sarah Lou so the age gap between the actresses works out much the same.

If I didn'( know the history, and was seeing them for the first time, I probably would double take at Sarah being Bethany's Mum, or wonder why they'd cast such a young looking actress as the Mum. But having seen it from the start and knowing that Sarah was 13 when she was born (and the actress actually 16) I don't have a problem with it. Sarah just still looks young for her age, her daughter looks like a normal 16 year old with make up to me.

As this subject has come up again, did anybody else notice that the actress originally cast as Bethany and fired when they discovered she was mid twenties rather than 19, Katie Redford, was Rose in the 'Keeping Up Apperances' prequel on Friday. Very good she was as well.

No I never saw it but am glad Katie is getting work as I did have sympathy at the time over her sacking when she was only following her agent's advce!!

Yes, me too.

Of course it is hard to know the full story but if, as seems likely, she was told/encouraged to fudge her age to get work by her Agent, i do feel for her. Agter all, if she could pass for 14, where was the harm?

But, looking at her, i doubt she could have passed for 14. Fallon gets enough comments and a birth date of 1989, only 2 years after screen Mother, would have made it pretty absurd.

I'm glad she has got another role though and she was very good. Good enough for me to specifically look to see who had played Rose in the end credits. Even if it doesn't go to series (which I don't think it will), it should be a springboard for her.

Surely that's the point?

Exactly.

Sarah didn't look old enough to be having a baby when she was told she was pregnant, despite the actress being 16.

That is why it was so shocking at the time. This was a young girl who "didn't even think we'd done it right", who looked like a child being told she was 5 Months pregnant and her Mother, only mid to late 30s herself, being bemused and horrified that this could be happening to her little girl. Because she was still her little girl.

This always comes up about Sarah, but imo she's just genetically blessed to have youthful looks and appear younger than she is. That isn't her fault. And of course if you had a baby at 13 you're always going to appear somewhat too young to have a child so 'old' in comparison to you, or compared to other mothers. I do wish that they would tone down Bethany a bit though. Since she is supposed to be 16 maybe less makeup and less trying to look extra grown up would help. She even looks older than her group of bullies. And if she is only 20 IRL there is no reason with a bit of styling and makeup (i.e. less of it, more girly colors instead of bright vampy reds), there is no reason she can't look a bit younger.

Isn't that the point? She's 29! Of course she doesn't look old enough to have a 16 year-old daughter.

But yeah Tina O'Brien definitely doesn't look her age. It's hard to believe she's 33!

I don't mind Lucy Fallon but why didn't they just cast a 16 year old actress to play a 14 year old Bethany at the time when both Sarah and Bethany were being reintroduced into Corrie? Tina O'Brien was 16 when she was cast as Sarah and that worked really well.

Tina seems better-looking now that when she originally left Corrie. Sarah's jacket is remarkably similar to Sophie's but enhances Sarah's attractiveness more.

It doesn't help that the Bethany actress is like 20.

Can't believe Tina is 33, she was playing a schoolgirl herself in Waterloo Road a few years ago.

Tina O'Brien is very young-looking, but she always was and that isn't her fault. Sarah had Bethany young, so up to a point it works, but the actress playing her daughter does (in my opinion) look the 20 that she is rather than the 16 she is supposed to be. Mind you this is a world where Nick is in his early 30s...
