Completely bored of Phil Mitchell
Phil Mitchell has always been a complex and interesting character, however in the last few months or so he has just become an (even more) obnoxious bore. No-one is permanently angry, permanently moody, monosyllabic all the time. It's just boring and annoying and for the first time ever, I actually dread Phil's scenes because they are all identikit.

I don't care for Phil. There are no different aspects to his character at all. I think that with most of the other characters we get to see different sides to them.
I'm really not looking forward to the Mitchells' week. |

It's unfair that the likes of Ronnie and Roxy get axed but Phil is untouchable because of who he is.

I'm not so much bored, more keen to see when the next part of this story will develop. And next week could be a key part of it

I think Steve McFadden plays Phil exceptionally well and I like watching Phil even when he's being vile. That said, I do wish they would start to move this liver story along a bit. It looks like it steps up a notch next week, hopefully he won't be simply discharged and then back home to shuffle around looking increasingly more jaundiced for even more months on end.
I appreciate that in real life it's not a condition that hurries along, but this is a soap to come on SOC, kill him or find a solution. |

It's rinse and repeat time and time and time again. Treating every single person he ever comes into contact with like dirt. 'Owning' hardmen and criminals easily. Having women whom he abusives (both mental and physical) and endless affairs and yet they still come crawling back for more. Car crashes. Comas. Heart conditions that mysteriously disappear. Losing all his money and suddenly finding it again. From coked out Harold Ramp to King of the Square in two minutes flat. And he never ever pays for his actions. Boring. |

Hang on, we don't know that he's not going to be off soon. I don't see how they can realistically pull him back now with the liver cirrhosis story. I know, I made the fatal mistake of using the word 'realistically' when referring to a soap, but anyone else got a feeling he might just die?
Oh and in answer to the OP, I agree, he's well past his use by date and fed up with his miserable mug. The way they're going, no one will actually care if he does die |

Thinking he's probably not got long to live, likely wanting to go back to drinking, and having lost his mum (which his brother blames him for), I'd say he has good reason to be angry/depressed/grumpy. I have a feeling they will find a liver for him as it makes sense to keep a popular character in the show.

He's really dragged the show down for the last couple of years. There's been the odd decent episode where he features but most of the time it's just a case of him falling out with various members of his family.
Unless Steve has decided to leave we all know the way this liver story will go...it will go the same way that all his other health dramas have gone. And I bet they serve it up for the Christmas episode. |

Phil needs a completely new direction, or he needs to be rested for a while. The owning people and constant feuding has become tiresome.
If Steve took another year's break he could come back completely refreshed. |

Phil is going nowhere. He will get a liver transplant.

It is funny that both Sharon and Ian have plenty of mileage left but Phil just seems completely spent. I wouldn't be that bothered if it was announced that Phil was leaving for good. Icon or no icon he is just a ridiculous character.

Steve McFadden has left for two years before so it's not beyond the realms of possibility. He must get bored playing the same thing year in year out.

I know that he has left before, but I would be surprised if he left again. He might not like his material but maybe he loves the comfortable life that EastEnders allows him to live. Also, while Steve McFadden is a good actor, I don't really see him in other roles.
Whilst he is a good actor, I don't think we've seen much of that recently. He is phoning it in but then so are most of the cast. Good storylines have been thin on the ground for over a year. |

If SOC really had the balls he would put and end to Phil. However I do wonder whether certain actors have got a job for life there and that's why we end up getting frustrated because they have to appear on screen and the storylines just go around in circles.
His character is burned out now. There is very little they can do with him so the only hope is Steve Mac chooses to take a year or two out or quit completely. I don't imagine he needs the money now being one of highest earners of all the soaps, surely a multi millionaire. |

But where would the male cast be without him?
