What a shame, wishing Laura all the best.
I know they've got a bye but I wonder if she'll be able to continue in the competition at all

Oh no, poor thing! She was so excited about the jive too.
![]() I guess that explains the tweets/lack of though and I hope she has a speedy recovery. |

Its a real, real shame especially as it was a strong dance for Laura. The training footage was looking very good. And Gio's favourite dance
![]() I understand that you can't 'self certify' an injury in a case where you have a bye on Strictly - so their medical team take a look and decide. Which is wise to prevent both celebs and professionals letting enthusiasm overtake better judgement. Hence her comment 'It was a decision taken out of my hands'. She needs to compete next week or withdraw. It must be the type of injury where she thought she might recover - so there is a good chance that she will be back next week. Maybe a Viennese Waltz? I guess she was silent as, if she had recovered enough to jive tonight, Laura was just going to get on with it, rather than playing a sympathy card. In which case, she has my total respect. And keeping silent until the facts were known does make sense. Wishing her a speedy recovery. And hoping that Gio is OK with the decision. I've noted that Laura has thanked 'all my fellow contestants for the support they have given me in the last 24 hours'. ![]() The Bottom two will now be very interesting tonight. |

Yes, I've just seen the full message on Twitter, and she said that she didn't realise how serious the injury was until too late, and now thinks she's let us all down.

So gutted for them both but, like everyone, did sense that something was amiss.
Hope Laura makes a speedy recovery and can dance next week. We want to see that Jive at some point too!I think the reference to support from fellow contestants is about the whatsapp group they all use to support each other and keep in touch. Obviously this has been known about for a couple of days and it will mean a lot to Laura that everyone is behind her. I wonder if, with Will's departure, they could skip an elimination but doubt that'll happen as they'd have to completely change the results show format. |

It sounds like they tried to keep going despite the injury but it got worse. It's late to have a final decision, and I hope Laura can recover fast enough to train for next week. With it being Halloween, it tends not to suit dances which are quieter, so they will have to be lucky with the injury and the dance/theme /music they get next week - and they had such a good song this week!

I think that Laura should get a Flying Witch sort of thing and just fly around on a broomstick for 70 seconds, with 20 seconds of PIVVITS to finish it off. Sorted. Preferably to Bat Out of Hell just for the enjoyment of seeing Jellus Brendan.

I want to be optimistic but in all honesty I can't see how Laura will be able to resume intensive training mid week at the absolute latest for next weekend. Her ankle injury must be severe if she's been told on doctor's orders she can't dance and any of the dances, even the slower ballroom, will place a strain on her ankle. I hope I'm wrong and I'll be absolutely thrilled if she and Gio are back

Oh no
I hope it's not too serious it'd be such a shame to go out this way. It's an unlucky year isn't it? Not quite as dramatic as Brendan being back from the dead though!

Fatskia. MY EYES..... that Jive. Is there an 'Unsee' button to press
![]() Agree. Positive thoughts and let's enjoy the show. Laura will know a great deal more about her ankle's recovery by Monday. I think the producers will be sensible in their dance and music choice for next week. And Gio can choreo with the injury in mind. Happy viewing everyone. I hope Laura is sitting somewhere comfy with a nice glass of something in her hand.. and some lovely friends around her to fetch and carry a bit. And Mick, of course!

As Laura said - "Positive thoughts!"
![]() Keeping everything crossed! ![]() Realistically as Laura isn't a trained dancer and as they've already been in one dance off they would need to train fairly intensively to get back some momentum and compete with the contenders . . . However of course I'd love to see them both back even if it's only for one more week. The enjoyment of dancing is what it should be about above all else and I love watching these two ![]() Feeling very much for Gio too, he's been working so hard with Laura and giving her such immense support

Here is the latest.... from the Mirror but... has a ring of info to it.
The Irish stunner was left "absolutely devastated" after being told by doctors that it would be unsafe for her to perform on Strictly Come Dancing tonight – less than three hours before the show is due to air – because of an injury she sustained to her right foot earlier in the week. However, the Sunday Mirror has been told exclusively that doctors fear Laura may cause "permanent damage" to her ankle if she attempts to take to the dance floor with Giovanni Pernice before recovering. “She’s seen two physios and two medics over the past 24 hours and at 4.15 today show bosses took the decision she could not perform," an insider said. Instead Giovanni will go on to explain what has happened tonight, while Laura has been sent home from Elstree.” Show sources say the Irish star, 31, started feeling pain in her ankle at the start of the week but braved through it, desperate to perform. By yesterday, the pain was so intense that she could not stand, and she was refereed to a show physio. Doctors ruled that it would be unsafe for the star to compete in tonight's live show - less than three hours before airtime An insider said: “It is really enflamed. She’s had to keep it elevated and she’s being given pain killers. "She is absolutely gutted. She’s been in floods of tears because she was so excited to be performing." |

Oh poor Laura that sounds horrid. I saw her tweet saying she feels she's let people down, which is sad as she hasn't, injuries can happen even if you're super careful

I had formed an idea that they had been training despite the injury. It must be particularly gutting - to have gone through all that in vain.

Poor Laura. Sounds horribly painful and quite serious tbh. It would be a really sad way for them to go out but as you say Ochre, it's not worth the risk of damaging her ankle permanently for the sake of a few more weeks in Strictly. I also agree that it'll be a bit of a struggle if they do come back next week.
She sounds absolutely gutted though, really feel for her.

Oh Giovanni is a sweetheart isn't he? Mind you, I thought he didn't look that well himself!
I feel like they had a good slot this week, as well as great music and their favourite dance - such a shame ![]() Fingers crossed for next week. |

Lovely message from Gio
![]() I was wincing watching Laura hopping in that training footage, she looked in so much pain. I only want to see her return to the competition if she isn't going to cause her ankle permanent damage resuming training. |

Poor Gio moping around all on his own in the clauditodium, looking like he needed a big hug. Thought he was going to cry at one point during his little speech, poor guy! I'm not sure if him looking pale is because of the rumoured strictly lurgy or because they didn't bother tanning him, possibly both. I think Mick should be on cheer everyone up duty!
