As Laura loves the Stones I'm hoping it'll be good, it might give her a boost to dance to a song she knows by one of her favourite bands, they have Mick Jagger on hand too!

I understand that they might want her to leave out references to eg the trampolining. But the contradictory changes to the medical advice taken (and when) don't do any of them any favours - and I don't see how it was originally stated would have painted the BBC as careless. Neither version is worse than the other but the fact that it's changed is what looks odd.
Yes I agree Wicks. Basically, Laura saw medical personnel on Friday and Saturday according to Version 1. She has now 'ended the story' with the advice she was given on Friday. So it is now (just my guess) true up to a point, but leaves out entirely what happened on Saturday.

To be fair, the essence of her injury story is that she saw a medical specialist, options were fully explored, and she was advised not to dance. Really, that is it. The rest is detail. But its detail that someone seems to be sensitive about.

Edit: Laura wrote in Version 1 that she reported an apparent workplace injury (her ankle) to a BBC Physio on Quickstep Friday. Were correct procedures followed after that etc etc is the 'careless' aspect that might cause sensitivities. Like, I dunno, sending her trampolining. Just ferrinstance.

Ah I see - I couldn't remember what it had originally said re medical advice. So it's not that she's changed her story - just that she's left some of it out. I'd only skimmed over that bit anyway, as I'm not really interested in the details of the medical advice/injury - she was ruled as not fit to dance, so that's sufficient. I do agree that how many people decided that and when isn't crucial. Odd to change it though.

I do think it was silly for her to not tell Gio about getting medical advice before the quickstep and asking for it to be taped up. I think that was unwise. But there's no suggestion from me of anything more than that.

EDIT - Lady Lavender - re your edited addition. Yes, I get that re the trampolining (though obviously if they have a case to answer to Laura then they will have so regardless, but I understand why they might not want it broadcast to all and sundry), but what I meant when I was saying that I didn't see how it painted the BBC as careless, wasn't in reference to that, but to the change in the blog re the medical advice, that Ochre pointed out.

Right. Songs and dances....

Tango to Paint it Black. Hmmm. I love that song - its really dramatic and has a great driving beat.

Is it a good Strictly Song? There are worse songs out there.

Here is DWTS version in May 2016 - Antonio and Sharna.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXiM1vO3v5U

If they use the same amount of dry ice, Laura could pretty much be on roller skates.

Is a fast Tango really the best thing with her injury? They have given Greg the Rumba...

What is important is that Laura told the BBC Physio and was treated on the Quickstep Friday. It sounds like she mentioned her injury starting to bother her on Monday after the trampolining but that bit of her blog has gone. Agree I am surprised that she didn't mention to Gio that she had been taped up by the physio. Maybe he was in pro rehearsals at that point and it just didn't come up, or seem important at the time. Or didn't seem worth making a fuss about in a week when Greg had been having scary injections into his wrist joint etc. Hard to know really. It probably only becomes important with good old 20/20 hindsight.

Edit They have just (probably) asked for any reference to Saturday events to be removed. Which could be simply a case of keeping the show's production methods and events private - its totally normal for participants to be asked to keep confidentiality around those aspects. It might be that the blog was Too Much Information about Strictly in general so it has been softened a bit.

Back on music... comparison of Tango speeds.

Laura and Gio: Paint it Black 160 bpm (Rolling Stones version) or 148 bpm (DWTS)

Lesley and Anton: Whatever Lola Wants: 112 bpm

I am ...errrr.... very surprised that Laura with an injury has such a fast Tango.

I can absolutely see Gio storming across the floor at lightning speed.. but its really asking a lot for Laura to keep up. And of course faster tempo = more steps to learn which is a challenge with limited training time.

Its... interesting.

The Tango and the song are what would be classed excellent choices for Halloween.

The key may be in producing choreography that the viewers love, but has reduced Tango content - without it being obvious.

Some others have worse combinations.

The Tango has lots of heel leads, which should be easier than toe leads for Laura. Hopefully Laura's acting skills will sell the dance.

Edit: Yay to Laura back in training!

Thanks Fatskia - good point about the heel leads in Tango. Happy with the idea of Tango for them this week and I like the song very much. And Laura's dog Mick Jagger is VERY happy

Its just the speed of it - 30% faster than Anton and Lesley last week = 30% more choreography to learn But I am being a bit simplistic there - as you say, its all down to Gio managing the choreo cleverly.

I think (just a guess) that this was their original Halloween song and dance and hasn't been changed in the light of Laura's injury.

There's always a teeny tiny chance the band could slow it down but I doubt it. Let's hope it's more a 'glidey' tango than a 'stompy' one, but most dances are much easier than the jive on your feet & well everything (OMG my SHINS!)

I'd guess they just cba to change it since deciding whenever they do, especially as Halloween is so highly themed there's probably less leeway to do something different 🙄
I have my fingers crossed for Laura!

Gio may be sporting an impeccably tailored suit (always a winner )...... but Laura in her latest Instagram is sporting a fetching ice pack in this season's pastel shades, tucked casually into her co-ordinating sock and trainer for a sporty-but-casual look etc etc (she types in best Daily Fail Sidebar of Shame journalese....)

Looks like maybe that is training done for the day, followed by leg rest, ice , elevation etc .... and ITT. I hope in flat shoes!

It is indeed a photo that is fairly high on the Gorgeous-ometer.

Yes by the way to the forum name and film reference. Lavender had already been taken as a forum name.. and any film with Maggie Smith and Judi Dench is a winner in my book.
yes, I would agree with that, another photo I love shows Giovanni in a dark sleeveless hoodie standing by a door, will have to go and find it

Maggie Smith was great in The Lady in the Van wan't she?

As Laura loves the Stones I'm hoping it'll be good, it might give her a boost to dance to a song she knows by one of her favourite bands, they have Mick Jagger on hand too!
so do I, as you can see by my forum name and Giovanni said the Stones "were the best band ever" so I'm really looking forward to this dance

Hello Ruby - Hard to beat a classic Stones track and the lyrics are just spot-on for Halloween!

Very nervous until ITT tonight as the first day back at training will, I guess, tell them whether its feasible to dance this weekend.

I've been getting in the mood by watching the end scene and credits of "The Devils Advocate" with Keanu Reeves and Al Pacino. "Vanity, definitely my favourite sin".😈💃

Hope we get lots of flames like this.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=G3jaPBFXFTU

I'm choreographing the whole dance in my head already.

Edit: Vincent also used it when he danced with Louisa at the Eurovision Dance Contest. It was a tango/paso/jive showdance.

Sadly Brendan Cole has already confiscated the flames for his Bat Out of Hell Jive Epic. Not just some flames. ALL OF THE FLAMES.

If he is lucky, Gio may find a small, half-empty box of matches in a corner somewhere.

Brendan has been choreo'ing that routine in his head since the day he was born...

Edit: How could I have forgotten about a film which has not only the divine Keanu ... but Al Pacino... (Adds to rewatch list...)

Damn.

You can do an awful lot of damage with a small box of matches though.

Aww it was great seeing them on ITT tonight - I feel like we've been a bit deprived of them recently!

Lovely interview and it sounds like they're going easy on the ankle, which is good. Love their theme for Halloween - Mr & Mrs Death!

Yes it was. They seemed in good spirits.

Good to know that if she does dance she won't cause any more damage to the ankle.

Lovely interview - really agree they are both in good spirits. I had wondered how their team work was after dealing with Laura's injury and pulling out of the show etc but they look absolutely fine. Glad actually that they both said that they are not making the routine 'noddy' - Gio said it was a 'difficult routine' and Laura said that she didn't want to use her injury as an excuse to do less on Saturday. So they are both going to give it a good shot.

Nice touch by Gio to say that IF they made the final then Jive could be part of their show dance. And Laura chipped in to say that she just wanted to get through Saturday thank you very much!. So they seem to be in the right place and right frame of mind.

The training clip was very 'early days' and posture and frame looked a bit for Tango but I would imagine they were stepping through the routine as today's focus.

Costumes and characters: Mr and Mrs Death

Greetings from sunny Sicily! (Well it was after sundown when we arrived but it is balmy enough so am expecting a bit of sun in the coming days!)

Thanks for the ITT summary Lady L - I haven't been able to see it here but did catch a little little clip on Twitter just now and glad they seem in good spirits and will be giving it as much as they possibly can under the circumstances.
