From what we have heard so far this Series, they don't make any allowances for injury in terms of the dance allocated or the music.
If Laura had been fit and well, it would have been a good dance and music for her.
I sent all my votes Laura's way - I know she will have done the best she could.
They are in an almost impossible to call situation. They need to dance as good as Laura could dance if she was totally fit, but pushing for slightly too much could result in the injury becoming unmanageable. Giovanni is having to plan things and make decisions where it's almost impossible to guess it right.
He didn't get it all right, but I'm sure he too is trying to make the best of it.
I agree Fatskia. It was a good song for Samba, and Samba would potentially have been a very good dance for injury-free Laura.
Recovering from an injury.... tricky for both of them.
If my crystal ball on Monday had predicted a score of 32 for Samba this week, I would have thought that was a good result for Laura. I might have dreamed of 34 (8,9,8,9) this week but it never felt like 36 was on the cards given the dance.
So the score that Laura achieved was her best Latin score so far in the series which is credit to Gio's teaching and her own true grit.
My only non-appreciation was that at times you could 'feel the joins' in the dance where it had been adapted. I am not sure that the scores would have changed even with a better flow and balance. - Laura still had injury-related limitations around the steps that she could attempt safely. There were no batucadas in the routine for a reason.

I really thought Laura danced the samba content she had learned well, though she didn't have all of the routine... maybe they ran out of time with ankle-reduced training.

I think its poor camera work actually or, more likely, an unhelpful decision by the director to go with a tight shot on the spins for that crucial 3 second cut. You can work out that the director had a shot that showed both of them throughout the spins but chose not to broadcast that one. Better telly, just not so good for Laura and Gio.
I think he was aiming for a modified version of the final 5 seconds of the CCC that he danced last year with Georgia. Which was a far tastier choreography cake baked from very similar ingredients.
I am not sure it affected either the marks or the voting last night.

She is just gorgeous.
😭😭😭😭😭 Sad to see her go, not her best dance but she's much better than others who've escaped the dance off. Thought the last dance was very sweet and had some nice moves in it! Gio can spin even when holding a partner!
Ah well. Another one bites the dust. Sad to see her go but it has to be someone every week, and she was just unlucky. You could tell she really enjoyed the experience and was gracious in defeat Looking forward too ITT on Monday.

Just popping in from the GG thread! So sorry to see Laura and Gio go home so soon I really felt for her last night but I guess it's the kindest thing for her ankle , now she will be able to recover from it properly! I think they had much more to give so it is such a shame!

Very sad for Laura and Gio Laura knew as soon as she finished her dance that she was Bottom 2 so that must have been a long, long evening for her.
From the judges' scores last night, Laura clearly needed 8,9,9,9 to stay. In a parallel universe where Laura did not have an injury and could put in long training hours, that was possible. Sadly, on Planet Elstree
My own view is that Laura last night might, just about, have scored 33 (to tie with Claudia and Rinder) if she had danced as she did in the dance off, where I thought she improved quite a bit. But Daisy and Ore would always have scored a little higher. So the result would have been the same. And the result if she had tied with Ore and Daisy with a score of 34 would still have been Bottom 2. The 3 worst dancers (Ed, Greg, Rinder) have a strong public vote and that is a killer for Laura and, probably, Daisy quite soon.
I thought Laura was composed and handled the dance off well. She spoke warmly about the show, remembered to thank Gio (bit brief but she can say more on ITT) and did a lovely farewell dance... If you have to go, it looked ok to me. Some warm hugs between all the cast which was nice to see.

Good point!
Laura can now concentrate much more on recovering and isn't under pressure to risk worsening it any more.
