The Daily Mail makes its money through clicks on its website. To a point, it doesn't matter if the news is true or not, they can always apologise and retract. If the story is going to generate clicks and thus revenue, out it goes ...
The BBC, on the other hand, gets its money through the licence fee and is possibly a bit too wary of reporting scandals involving MPs of any type as it could suffer consequences.
The real story is not how the Beeb takes a little bit longer to report a story, but why the commercial media probably sat on this for months. The Sun seem to have known about Vaz's insalubrious sex life for a while, but didn't reveal who it was. I suspect they all did, but kept it quiet for reasons of long term self interest.
