Be interesting to see how our nerves are tonight in what is, basically a must not lose game. Last year we buckled when it mattered so we need to show a bit of steel tonight.

No one "buckled". Poch fooked up the first half selection and his three-quarter time subs.

I'm pretty sure he said last year and not last time

Didn't "Poch" say that Dier and Dembele wouldn't miss any games when they went off against Sunderland?

Yes I did. He's too quick to rant at me without reading the posts properly.

So their keeper hasnt kept a clean sheet in the last 38 Champions League group stage matches. Thats us nailed on not to score then.

I actually thought that half was ok. CSKA very well organised, especially in defence, and i think we've done fine. Haven't pulled up any trees or anything, but we've been patient and had some decent possession.

I'd probably leave things as they are for 20 minutes or so and then maybe throw on N'Koudou for a bit of pace to see if it shakes things up a bit.

lots of huffing and puffing but as usual lacking a decent final pass or attempt. Without Walker and Rose we are far too narrow so CSKA just put bodies in the middle and block us out.

Lamela and Eriksen need to be doing more. So far only Alli is carrying us forward. Janssen needs to improve his awareness of where the defenders are as he is getting caught offside too easily.

Is N'Koudou on the bench, can't remember. Perhaps it's a good time to see if his pace and trickery can open them up.

I think Eriksen at least should certainly be doing more - two long range shots that sailed miles over the bar summed up his half really.

N'Koudou certainly is on the bench, and I imagine we'll see him at some points.

Janssen's offside "goal" was quality though

Agreed. Not for the first time we see a lot of running about and posession but ultimately we end up being toothless in attack, not being able to play through their defence so we end up resorting to long range pot shots.

Disappointed in Lamela, Eriksen Son so far. Again found wanting against better opposition. Janssen ? Nope.

GKN on. We might actually get a bit of width now instead of everything going through the middle.

Since Janssen's gone off Lamela has become more penetrating.

Poch taking Janssen off when we needed a goal shows me maybe his patience is waining. It was the right call though, but wont do anything for Janssens confidence.

It's been tough for any individual to make an impact. A very narrow and crowded game.

He did the same with Soldado though when he was desperately needing a goal and look at where that got him. I wouldn't be surprised if Janssen is subsequently dropped for Sunday's game as well.

Obviously Sonny is on fire at the moment and shouldn't be dropped but Eriksen - again - had another weak game tonight but Poch perseveres with him week in, week out.

I'd switch out Eriksen for N'Koudou who was hugely impressive when he came on and see what happens - Janssen could well benefit from his pace on the wing.

Anyway, minor rant over, that was a very satisfying win. Some good performances (as well as some bad..) and I do think it was well deserved.

Agreed, I'd like to see N'Koudou start as his pace would frighten Man City but cant see it. It will be Eriksen starting guaranteed.

As for Janssen, if Poch is taking him off when we need a goal, then thats not a good sign for him. If he had confidence in him, he would leave him on as theres always the "one chance, once goal" scenario which all strikers feed off.

Son could possibly be a Suarez type player for us. He's all instinct and energy. He doesn't have the barrel chested, low center of gravity and he's not as explosive but the way he handles himself on the field reminds of the Urugyan we all loved to hate.
