Son aside, the whole team is struggling for goals at the minute, which suggests a team issue rather than it being down to Janssen. I think the whole situation has been mismanaged from the start to be honest. He looked good in preseason, and really should've started the season proper while Kane had a rest.
For the life of me, I just cannot understand how/why he is being written off by large sections of our support already. He's clearly a good player, and it's not his fault that he's having to feed on scraps at the moment |

I thought we were pedestrian at times passing the ball round at almost walking pace. All CSKA had to do was wait for the attempt to thread the final ball through and cut it out. Thank-god super Sonny's shot managed to trickle over the line but then their keeper hasn't kept a clean sheet in something like 37 games, so it would have been a travesty if we hadn't notched one up.
N'Koudou's introduction showed that with a bit of pace you can cause teams problems as you start to stretch them and force errors. And therein lies part of our problem. Teams sit-off us, we pass it about and have all the possession but we are not hurting them enough to create enough genuine goal scoring opportunities. We then end up in desperation snatching shots at goal from the edge of the area, which gives us an impressive goal attempts tally but few are actually on target or trouble the keeper. |

67% possession away in Moscow, frustrate the hell out of them, try and nick it ...
Didn't seem to work out too badly. Biggest relief is Poch got his head around it this time. |

Worryingly we are clearly lacking in attack. The problem with Janssen is that everything everyone is saying about him is exactly what was said about Soldado - He needs a run of games He will come good He just needs a goal He works hard and puts in a shift He has a good touch We are'nt playing to his strengths Etc etc etc. I accept its unfair to lump him in the same bracket so soon, as he may well come good, but the signs are worrying. I have'nt seen a single thing from him yet to set him apart. The fact that Poch chose to take "him" off when we needed a goal, when there were other options available (personally I would have subbed Eriksen who was having a mare), is worrying. Wont help his confidence. |

Thought Tottenham were comfortable last night and deserved the victory. Cannot see a second defeat against Monaco so qualification may come down to results against Laverkusen

Agree with Soulboy in post #377. When our two most creative players, Eriksen and Lamela are not firing on all cylinders we really do struggle to create anything. Yes I realise it was Lamela who slipped Son in and I'll give him credit for that as he did keep trying. I only wish he would learn to trust his right foot a lot more. He gets in some fantastic positions but then destroys his good work by always trying to use his left foot and it costs us.
On Janssen I agree it's ridiculous to be writing him off at this stage. He also does a lot of good work but needs to quicken up his thought processes and time his runs a lot better. In the 2H when they started to come at us a bit more I thought we looked nervous and it was only bad finishing by the CSKA forwards that saved us a couple of times. I'm not sure Wanyama is the answer to protecting the back 4 as he gets caught flat footed and out of position a little too often for my liking. His passing is a bit lackadaisical at times too. Mind you he wasn't helped too much by Alli last night who was bombing forward at every opportunity and not always too quick at getting back to help cover. Man City is going to be the big test as to where we really are at this time. Hopefully, our players will raise their game enough to get a win. |

Who's writing Jannsen off?
![]() The short answer is to just look at Sonny; the epitome of a second-season player. Regardless of whether it's the 'best' league or whatever, factually you have less time to think and do in the Prem than any other. It takes time to adjust from any other league, let alone one where the score seems to start at 2-2. And, fwiw, Van Nistelrooy cost Utd more 16 years ago than we paid for Jannsen. |

So how many will Man City score tonight ? 4, 5, 6 even ? All we can hope for is more injuries.

Well if Celtic can hold them to a draw, I can't see why we can't at least do that.

They were all league games. City could still equal or break that record, but we'll dash that chance on Sunday

CCV signs a new deal. I get the feeling the club is purposely drip feeding these announcements!

I don't have a massive problem with it really I guess, it's all good news I suppose. I suppose Vertonghen being 29, he's probably the most likely candidate to essentially 'step down' first so I guess that's the point when CCV would look to step up. But then Wimmer is only 23 as well so if he stays, he could also have a big future. |

I did'nt know about this ? So Son must start his 21 months military service before he is 28 (he is 24 now). The only way out of it is if he wins a gold with South Korea in the 2018 Asian Games. Ironically Leverkusen refused him permission to play in the 2014 Asian Games, when South Korea won gold, which would have exempted him.
Thats some carrot to dangle over your countrys players. Win gold or your doing military service for two years. No wonder they were so happy to win. England should try it. |

He can delay it past the age of 30 if he declares legal residency in another country, but when Park Chu-young did this, it didn't go down well and his reputation has never recovered in Korea. There is also the chance that Sonny would only be required to do a number of weeks basic training and then be a non-active member in an administrative arm of the military. |

Oh dear, Jermaine Jenas has predicted that we will beat City on Sunday!
![]() Although if i were still a gambling man, i'd have most likely had a punt on us either way as i suspect the bookies will have City as pretty decent favourites. I can watch the game on a decent stream for once - actual sky sports

It will again be very interesting to see what Poch does with the players available - having a proper squad with so many genuine options is new territory for him (and for us!).
Quite a fan of continuing with the muscular tag team of Walker and Sissoko, but who sits behind Dembele. Is it Sonny left, and Dele behind Janssen .. Wanyama or Dier ... Lamela on the bench .. fwiw, I haven't paid enough attention to Citeh under Pep but I'm going to assume there's not a lot of weaknesses to exploit around the pitch. |
