Yes we mentioned this quite a while back on a version of this thread though it has resurfaced in the news recently, I guess because Sonny has raised his profile with his goal scoring.

He can delay it past the age of 30 if he declares legal residency in another country, but when Park Chu-young did this, it didn't go down well and his reputation has never recovered in Korea. There is also the chance that Sonny would only be required to do a number of weeks basic training and then be a non-active member in an administrative arm of the military.
Ah I must have missed that last time round. To be honest, if thats the requirement in his country, then he should do his military service, regardless of winning a gold medal. I dont agree with a class system where you can avoid the national duty everyone else has to do just because your a wealthy footballer. I guess as the time gets closer it will be a major factor in any potential transfer too.

"Mauricio Pochettino has opened the door to becoming England manager in the future – but dismissed the idea he could succeed Sam Allardyce.

Gareth Southgate will take charge of the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers after Allardyce departed earlier this week following an exposé by the Telegraph.

Tottenham boss Pochettino will not be among those pushing to succeed him but the job of leading England is appealing.

Asked about the prospect, he said: “Yes, why not? In the ‘future-future’. Not now, it’s impossible, as I signed a new five-year contract here earlier this year.

“It is not my moment. Not only is it not the moment here, but the same is true of Argentina too.”

So he's not actually "opened the door" to anything really, other than media-speak. He's just said what most managers feel, in that they'd likely consider the national job if it was ever offered.

Pretty obvious they would ask everyone in press conferences this week. Wenger dangling the carrot when asked, is more likely to just help him bump up his next contract. He is never leaving to manage England.

That's not bad going

Going to be a fascinating game tomorrow. I expect a lot of people will be expecting City to win so it'll certainly make people stand up and take notice if we can get a win, and a good win at that.

I'd probably take a draw but i think as long as we don't roll over and we give it a go, i'd probably even take a narrow loss as well.

Don't see any reason why we can't get at least a draw tomorrow. Should be a great game anyway.

On another note, I managed to get a ticket for the return leg of CSKA Moscow in December. It'll be my first time in London for almost 25 years, so I'm really looking forward to it. My last Spurs game at the Lane was v Feyenoord in the Cup Winners Cup in 1992 Hoping to be able to get over a few times next season for Premier League Games when we play at Wembley.

How can you say you'd take a narrow loss prior to the game? You're a team who were fighting for the title last season and your squad isn't any weaker this season... come on man, positivity!

Gotta agree. Come on Jason, saying you would accept defeat especially after Celtic drew? We can win this !

Good stuff. Hope you enjoy the game. Tip - getting out of Wembley after is a nightmare.

Agreed. If you want to leave on 86/87 mins and you jog you'll get to the tube without being stopped. Leave at the final whistle and you'll be waiting for up to 1 hour.

Well of course we're going to batter them

A win would be nice though as we'll go back to second and only be a point behind City to continue our "slow" start to the season ..

Let's hope we rise to the occasion today. We have been lucky to find our ourselves near the top of the table even though we have not played particularly well. There is an extra gear there somewhere that we need to find which includes getting our strikers firing.

tbf, Citeh are probably a different class to the rest of the league but that's over 38 games and doesn't mean we can't get some kind of result. Look forward to Poch's numerous choices and how it all plays out ... should be a cracker.

Some great looking games today - fantastic league

I wouldn't be surprised if Janssen is subsequently dropped for Sunday's game as well..
Just re-quoting myself for truth and future telling .

Don't get me wrong, Sonny's form at the moment means he absolutely deserves to start, but it's hacked me off that he's messing Janssen about in the same way he did with Soldado.

I remember that game where Soldado scored a belter of a goal from open play, I think it was in the Europa League, and he was subsequently benched in the very next game when you thought that maybe that was the goal he'd needed to kickstart his game.

Think Poch dropping Janssen tells you everything you need to know about how he feels about him. Starting a game like this without a proper striker is a brave or foolish move. Time will tell.
