Fantastic. So Son was the missing link after all, not Dembele ha.

Playing with a lot more freedom since Wanyama went off. He is subbed and we bag 3 goals in 15 minutes. For all Wams good points, hopefully Poch will realise we never need him and Dier starting games against this type of opposition.

Harry sub: Monaco on Wed: all about Monaco now and blooding newcomers.
Game always fundamentally changes at 0-1 as the home team comes out to play; Hughes had to take a punt at 0-1 but he has next to nothing to play with. |

Lamela has been fantastic since he's come on. Wouldn't think he's flown halfway around the world this week

Thought Ben Davies had a great game as well, but i think Rose will just slot straight back in when he's fit.
Considering we beat Monaco 4-1 last season with this team .. Lloris, Trippier, Alderweireld, Wimmer, Davies, Dier, Carroll, Lamela, N'Jie, Onomah, Sonny .. it'll be interesting to see the line-up on Tuesday. Considering we're at home to Sunderland and then Gillingham in the two games afterwards, I suspect we might see something approaching the 1st eleven on Tuesday then we'll have some rotation for the weekend. |

Jason - the Monaco game is Wed, not that it makes too much difference unless you're taking time off work
What a buzz it will be off that win and with an 80,000+ crowd,The whole of October looks well spaced - even the nasty trip to Moscow has a decent before and after gap. |

iI'm looking forward to Dembele returning now. Wanyama offers nothing going forward.

He showed when playing for Wales that he is s decent player. Perhaps Poch will give Davies some more first team action in the lesser cups.
When you see some of the tackles and saving tackles Walker made today, coupled with his ridiculous pace, it's no surprise really that Trippier can't displace him. It'll be interesting to see how Poch handles the squad now that we've now got everyone available - N'Koudou didn't even make the bench today either. |

We obv. don't know what he's showing in training but I think it would be a surprise to see NK before Gillingham.
I remember when players like Harry were talking about how 'it took a while to understand what the manager wanted' - and that was after nearly 12 months. It's be easier and quicker for this batch but it'll still take months on the training pitches - and that's the seasonal Prem pro's Wanyama and Sissoko; people are going to look like fish out of water for a while yet. By some way, I think Jannsen seems the most adjusted so far .. such intelligent runs

I think with N'Koudou as well there's probably a case of him not being at the required level of fitness just yet. I know he was training with us before the transfer was completed, but i imagine he's probably still got a way to go before he's 'poch-ready', if you will.
But Gillingham could certainly be a good game to at least have him on the bench. |

You might be under estimating the size of the issue the newcomers face in learning 4-2-3-1 and then Poch's variations on that theme. Completely different play book. You can see it's a long way from instinctive for Wanyama atm. He's been asked to play further up the park than he knows, and in a system he might not know - positionally he hasn't had a chance. It's hundreds of hours on the training pitches. Sissoko and Wanyama are in the most complicated roles though, less traumatic for NK and Jannsen.
