And Carroll follows suite, interesting who Poch rates.
Very true. I think Carroll is decent enough anyway, although whether he'll eventually get to be a regular starter in any capacity remains to be seen.

t'll be interesting to see how they react tomorrow after some of the things Poch has said in the press this week. A win takes us 3rd, or 4th if United also win.

Kane is WAY too selfish, but no-one ever pulls him up on it, it seems. passing only ever seems to be an option to him once the options of shooting or dribbling for whatever reason have been ruled out. I don't care how many goals he scores, he really needs to cut that habit out of his game.
He is selfish, as a lot of top forwards can be, but it obviously doesnt matter too much when his selfishness ends up with a goal. When he is off form it becomes more noticeable, and its almost as though he gets even more selfish as hes trying to force it too much. He is a bit of a conundrum, obviously we know he has been a slow starter before and still scored a lot of goals, so its not too worrying yet, but like you say - Janssen deserves an opportunity.

On another note, where is Kevin Wimmer ?.

He hasn't even made the bench in any of the squads since the start of the season.
Pochs explanation about Wimmer here;

http://www.hamhigh.co.uk/sport/footb...mmer_1_4700631

I do feel bad for Wimmer at the moment, I know im in a small minority in thinking it was unfair to drop him as soon as Vertonghen regained fitness last season, after he deputised so well IMO. Whilst there is obviously only so much room on the bench, and its great that CCV is being rewarded, it does seem a bit harsh on Wimmer. Especially as I dont think Vertonghen has been as good as normal since he came back from that injury, even to now.

Good to see Chadli enjoying life at WBA, he scored two and assisted two yesterday.

Also, we are supposedly interested in Crystal Palace U19 striker Francis Baptiste who scored 5 yesterday.

Regarding Kane, I do think he can be very selfish as well - even to the point of being detrimental to the team. I've seen plenty of games where he's got the ball and there have been players in far better open positions but he's still tried to get a shot off (which i realise is essentially exactly what Pee has said ).

But, as you rightly say, a lot of top forwards also have the same quality and it's a lot less noticeable when the ball is in the back of the net.

And he's never come across as a natural striker either I think. You look at someone like Aguero at City and he really epitomises everything you'd think of if you looked for a stereotypical striker. Strong, quick and skillful and you all but expect him to put the ball in the net when he's in or around the penalty area.

But the stats don't lie - 28 goals in total last season and 31 the year before, with most of us also saying that year that he'd never have a season like that again .

Janssen, like any other striker, is going to need a run of games to get his rhythm and find his form in the faster pace of the premier league but will he get that ?.

And as far as Wimmer goes, I do think it's quite harsh on him really. I know CCV has got bags of potential and could certainly be a future star but Wimmer hasn't really put a foot wrong so far and he's essentially being punished for it.

At the rate things are going, I could easily see him leaving on loan in January.

So a win today and we remain unbeaten in the league and go third.

We should keep this "slow" start going a bit longer if that happens

Let me see if i can work this out ..

Ben Davies is dropped and Vertonghen is moved to left back. Dier drops back to CB and is replaced by Wanyama. Sound about right ?. Very unfair on Davies and potentially could leave us exposed down the left side.

Eriksen on the bench as well in favour of Sissoko starting

Don't really know what to make of that. Clearly is unhappy with Eriksen and Lamela but is he also so unhappy with Davis that he thinks it's worth moving Verts and Dier?

Kane starts again. Surely the opportunity was to start Jansen today and on Wednesday to give him a chance to get a bit of rhythm going.

Certainly agree about Janssen. Two games on the spin would have been ideal but once again he'll likely be left with 10-15 minutes again today.

As for the rest of the side i'm still a bit baffled/bemused by the selection as well. Sure, bring Wanyama back in and move Dier back to CB but keeping Davies in and dropping Vertonghen would have made more sense.

a home game against one of the worst teams in the league, followed by an EFL tie against Gillingham...perfect opportunity to give Kane a week's rest and our new striker a couple of back-to-back to find his feet, and hopefully grab a goal or two. But nope...lets just keep playing Kane

Prediction: we'll probably stuff Sunderland, Kane will score a couple to "silence his critics", then Janssen gets to play with a completely unfamiliar lineup in midweek. Kane then comes back and plays next week, CL three days later, Man City after that, and then another set of internationals before returning even more drained and off-form.

Well I didn't see the CL game but I don't think Davies has done anything particularly wrong. On the other hand, Jan has been poor. Still hopefully Sissoko will show why we bought him.

ouf ...that's one very unhappy manager. Wouldn't mind but it was him who go it mostly wrong.

I don't think he wants to outright drop Vertoghen. Not yet.

That's a very *powerful* lineup - Sissoko right, Sonny left, I presume.

Power might get us through Poch's mini existential crisis

The way sunderland are set up, this is either going to be 6-0 or 0-0. we're either going to struggle to break them down or batter them

Not remotely surprised at that scoreline. Sunderland are disciplined and rigid in their formation and we need to be pinging the ball around as much as possible to try and pull them out of position but we're not doing it.

If Moyes puts someone on Walker, we're screwed.

Well if that was us showing passion and aggression then I totally misunderstood what Poch wanted. Let's try not being patient for once and have a real go. Sunderland look increasingly comfortable and you just know it'll end up with us throwing the kitchen sink at them for the last 10 minutes.

Wow, that exciting huh ?

A win is a win is a win i suppose, and i'm happy with that. Not without it's grumbles though. Better teams that Sunderland are going to stand off us in the future and we're going to find it even harder to break them down as well.

Sonny was excellent. Wanyama also had a solid game as well I thought.

The injuries are a concern though, although I suppose it'll work out if Kane is out for a few games as at least Janssen will get a run in the side.

Unbeaten start continues and up to 3rd. Slow down lads

Sonny was great overall, went a bit quiet towards half time but had a storming second half. Too early to decide about Sissoko. He looked better when he stayed wide. Thought Alli was poor though and if not for the injury to Dembele I'd have taken him off.

We need to find a way to convert more of our chances into goals although I can''t put my finger on what if anything we're doing wrong.

Kane's injury looked a bad one. Poch mentioned that Dembele and Dier's were just cramp in the hamstring so hopefully both will be ready for Boro next week.

I saw the slow motion replay and he really went over hard on his ankle.

Its like AVB never left. We just look so dull under Poch and week by week its just not changing. Scraping results at home against relegation fodder. Looking at the 90 minutes as a whole, we are just not good enough.

Think much as it will no doubt be an unpopular opinion I think I have to agree with Pete137.

We have so much possession but are plodding through games, sometimes it's 5 passes just to get across the halfway line. Our midfield take too many touches, usually backwards and sideways. When we move forward we are still too static and rarely get enough players in and around the box and our shooting and finishing is generally inept.

We played the worst team in the league today and struggled. Getting the win was a bonus but boy did we make hard work of it. It seems to me certain players leave their best on the training pitch and that must be frustrating as hell for Pochettino.

Son did ok today and should have scored on at least two occasions but he overdid it, took an extra touch, tried to beat his man again or simply turned back on himself and passed backwards. But he stood out today because nobody else did. When he has that sort of game against Man City, Chelsea or Arsenal I'll be more impressed. Don't even get me started on Sissoko, a totally underwhelming performance which I hope he can only improve on.

There is something lacking in this squad to turn a good team into a great one. For me it's the Spurs style, the style that made us an entertaining team. At the moment we seem to be so predictable and lacking in flair. I hope that changes soon.

To add to our worries Janssens shot into the heavens was pure Soldado-esque.

Janssen is "innocent" at the moment because he's just not getting the game time.

If we progress in the league cup and he starts those games and continues to stick the ball in row Z and miss sitters then fair enough, but at the moment he hasn't really had any real opportunity to get used to the pace of the premiership and get back in to the swing of scoring.
