We are talking about Strictly audience and not his show audience. He can be called Robert and when he comes down the stairs and just before he dances, they do say
Robert from Judge Rinder. That is good enough for people to make the connection.

He is being called Judge Rinder. That is the right thing to do.

I have no problem with Anastacia, she is an artist and she is donating her fees for a good cause, so I might. I still think she was overmarked.

I think the point though was that Anastacia is a mononym - and the other celebs are addressed by their full names.

Some people, while discussing, get personal and start throwing insults, just because they think they are right.

Personally I don't mind if they call him Judge, Rob or Robert I can't see what difference it makes.

I have never seen his show but admit I did presume he was a real judge ( Judge Judy really was a judge she is just retired) but I guess he calls himself that as he is judging cases on some level? I imagine though that now he has been introduced to those of us who wouldn't have known him otherwise he may well choose to drop the 'judge' whilst he is on Strictly. If he dosn't that is his choice it wont make any difference to his dancing abilities.

I don't think (personally) that his using' judge' as his name - or more like a title - is quite the same as an actor using their characters name. I don't watch soaps for instance so Tameka and Danny are unknowns to me but if you say Eastenders or Hollyoaks - the title of the show they are on it - gives me an idea of what they do. But Tameka is not Eastenders whereas Robert Rinder is Judge Rinder so there is a difference. I think it's inevitable he will get 'here comes the judge' type jokes so why not embrace it. Most likely he will get a mix of the two. Maybe he wont like Rob though he seems to be more of a Robert to me?

I have said before that I have no problem with people like Lulu, Anastacia ....
I don't think Robert will want to be known only as 'Judge Rinder' forever, I am sure he wants to branch out. So by calling him Judge, BBC is just promoting his show.

As for the rest of the post, are you suggesting that only BBC employees should be hired? After all everytime someone like Danny Mac talks about his day job he's promoting another channel.

So why are Tess and Claudia calling him by the name of his show ?

Are the BBC getting paid by ITV to advertise his show ? . Never heard any celeb being referred to by the name of the show they're in .

So why isn't Tameka referred to as Kim the name she is best known for, dear Nelson oh font of all wisdom ?

But you don't get the point, Judge is obviously happy to be called Judge. It is his unique selling point, how he wants to be called as he is expanding his reality tv work.

Its not promoting his show, it's promoting him. He has had a go at American TV as " judge ".
He went to theatre school for a while wanting to be an actor before becoming a very successful barrister. He wrote TV scripts he is obviously interested in both sides to his career.

He is promoting himself, it just doesn't matter what he himself wants to be called, ditto Anastacia. That's her unique selling point and she is promoting herself.

He is a judge.

It might not be the Crown Court, but it is a place where people choose to come to have their disputes settled by him and his decision is legally binding just as they are in the US with Judge Judy.

So he is judging, just as judges at a dog show or beauty contest are judging.

Besides which, why is it down to viewers to decide what name someone chooses to go by? He is obviously happy being referred to as Judge Rinder so why is it any one else's business?

I doubt that Tameka would be happy being referred to as Kim because she will go on to play other parts and wouldn't want to be known by the name of just one character - I'd never heard of her or her character before Strictly.

Why did no-one complain about Clifford Price being called Goldie? Would you prefer Ice T to be referred to as Tracy Marrow? Or Mr T as B A Baracus - he actually used both and was recognised by both?

I find being offended on someone else's behalf, when they're not offended, very strange.

And you do know that you can be known by any name you choose just by using it? You don't have to change it by deed poll or any other method. Just use it. So Robert Rinder could choose to be called Judge Rinder for everything (except when he's actually in court as a barrister of course).

He is not a judge he's a barrister . The show called Judge Rinder is a farce and a joke . Any fines and costs he imposes are paid for by ITV . In fact ITV pays for everything .

So he isn't a judge on the show? Think you'll find he is.

Fact: Judge Rinder acts "as an arbitrator in a form of binding arbitration in disputes over basic consumer issues, business/personal/neighbourhood disputes, and allegations of negligence."

And it doesn't matter anyway - he can choose to call himself whatever he likes, as can we all, and he obviously chooses to call himself Judge Rinder on Strictly. No-one else's concern except his.

On Judge Judy, the max (depending on the state the plaintiff comes from) is either $5k or $3k. The production pays, but I always wonder if the defendant has to pay the money back to the production company. That's why there's often a dodgy case where Judge Judy just throws them out - like fake lottery cheques etc.

It is perfectly possible that it is a "contractual obligation" that he has to be called "Judge Rinder" on Strictly.

He is obviously under contract to his ITV show, and would need permission from ITV to appear on Strictly. Having the name of his daytime show plastered all over the UK's No. 1 Entertainment show benefits awareness of his ITV show.

I recall the series of "Fantasy Football" in 1996 where their one of their guest managers was, TV presenter Dani Behr.
Every time she appeared, she had to - contractually - be referred to as "Hotel Babylon's Dani Behr" which was the other TV show she was presenting at the time.
