Chanal Benjilali
At last someone on the show with some talent. Although they only showed a small segment of her audition as they tend to do with these types of contestants she gave a really good performance, and has a very good voice.
Where ever she finishes in this show she has the chance to go on and have a decent career. More like this please. |

How did I know you would.make a thread about her? 😂
She reminded me of Kiera Weathers last year, interesting enough tone but relatively weak sounding voice. I doubt she'll make it past bootcamp tbh |

She was OK, but not my cup of tea at all. Exactly what Simon likes, though, but we've heard it all before so many times.

She has a good voice, but her tone is shrill in her upper register and her performance was predictable and unmemorable, IMO.

She did come across like an established soul singer.

She was good, but she wasn't great, a bit shouty in places but she can improve with age. What she needs to do now is avoid doing any of the following :
Whitney Aretha Hudson "Especially anything from the nightmare girls sound track, like that wrist slitting one night only" Carey Sande "especially clown" Beyonce Basically avoid any sh!t song that has been over done from series to series. |

Anyone singing Beyoncé should be instantly told they are going no further due to a total lack of originality and subjecting us once more to the usual dirge

But Chanal was singing a Lauryn Hill track, not Beyoncé.

I loved her - great R & B voice and she stood out for me. What a talent in a young girl. Her audition didn't seem as manufactured as some of the rest either. Possibly a "real" raw new talent rather than someone who has clearly been encouraged to audition by the production team. It all seems a bit contrived this year.
Only time will tell. |

This exactly and in the fairness of equality, I will also say that the same should apply to contestants of any race that can belt out tracks, if they do Halo, Clown, Telling you, One night only bollox, then they should go no further.

Contestants should be allowed to sing the type of song that suits their voice, whatever it might be.

Care to explain why then year after year, contestants are pushed under the bus & get given the wrong songs & wrong style of songs, which are clearly not suitable for their type of vocals. The X Factor needs diversity in genres of music, the majority of the voting public are bored with the same old crap year after year.

I agree with you that there needs to be more diversity and more genres of music in the show. I doubt if the contestants have much say into what they sing during the latter stages of the show.
Then they are given some criticism along the lines of "you don't really know who you are as a singer" or "you haven't made that song your own". Ridiculous process which needs to be addressed. There's so much unique talent in this country - why can't the X factor develop it rather than mould it into something manufactured. It's like taking a young Amy Winehouse and making her into Celine Dion. |

Like you said, she was ok, but a bit like "tonight Matthew, I'm going to be Lauren Hill", she'd be better off trying to find her own identity than trying to imitate a class act like LH.
Think she's one to watch though as long as they can find her identity and personality |
