I doubt that would happen as Orange is actually a BT shareholder I doubt they will become a rival all of a sudden.

The Spanish press seem to think the O2 IPO be up for grabs in early 2017. Barclays, UBS and Morgan Stanley to advise on the flotation with a fourth financial institution will also be involved.
Quote:
“The paper reports that analysts expect Telefonica UK to sell around 40% of the business valued at around £10bn and hope to raise £4bn this way. The Spanish firm is expected to use a significant portion of this on its substantial debts.”

Telefonica are still considering floating O2 but have concerns about Brexit. Might happen in 2017.

If Three can't buy it then may be we'll have a small existing player with a deep pocketed corporate owner (like Sky Mobile will be) or an entirely new player (foreign telecoms giant), buy it up. Interesting! Hope the deal happens soon so it can have some more competitive tariffs. Some of O2's are a joke!

Sky would seem like a logical buyer. I think a lot of people can see that, but Sky will want to be strategic and not make it obvious - or else the price will be higher!

Yeah Sky going with O2 is just like when BT went with EE for their MVNO. Testing the waters as they say.

Sky couldn't afford it, as it doesn't have the balance sheet in which to support a takeover of that kind. Bare in mind its just spent similar sums buying up its namesakes on the continent. The oft quoted £8-£12bn figure is way beyond the reach of Sky unless they issued new shares. It will probably be within O2 UK's interests to be hived off and listed on the stockmarket, that way it could get access to cheap capital in which to invest in the network.
