Hello bobbla and sunshineband. I too hope he can dance an emotional dance. I'm sure he will work to master steps and hold. If he can pull off a decent waltz, if that's what it is, then I think he will go quite far in the competition. As to rumba: I think he will give it a go and without the self consciousness of most male pros, given his cha cha cha! He seems to have a good relationship with Oksana and like her a lot so I think this rapport will be there in a rumba.
Judging by this clip, he might not be too bad at all.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9F8lCnWqo4

I reckon he should be able to throw some shapes with a cape in the paso as well. As for the rumba, I think he might actually be one of the male celebs who can master the rumba walk. Certainly last week in the cha-cha he actually glided his feet in the walk moves and stroked the floor - which he totally didn't get enough credit for! [Disclaimer: everything I know about ballroom dancing, I've learned from watching Strictly, so I'm by no means an expert!]

Very good point sunshineband! I think because it was predominantly the routine and his performance that impressed people, he was then regarded as the 'entertaining' one. Not a bad thing to be seen as, as you need to be able to please the audience and be appreciated by them. Its his first week so hes not going to be master of the dance, but out of the cha cha steps we saw, his were the best imo.

So, copy/pasted from the main thread: Rinder and Oksana will be dancing the American Smooth to 'Marvin Gaye' by Charlie Puth ft. Meghan Trainor.

Looking forward to it, and to them on ITT (tomorrow?)

Btw, on a side note, I dislike the comparison of Oksana to Ola. Yes can see there's a physical likeness but otherwise she seems quite different to me and as I like Oksana but not Ola anymore, it makes me cringe when Oksana is described as Ola mark 2.
I don't like this and don't understand it either. Ola is Ola, Oksana is Oksana, what part of this is so difficult to understand?

Insta from Jonathan (Oksana's husband): https://www.instagram.com/p/BK3CETgjUdG/

If Jonathan is in the studio with them, he "might" be giving them a little hand...

The Monkseal report on Rinder is hilarious.

https://monkseal.wordpress.com/2016/...1-performance/

If you have not already read it.

He is defiantly my favourite for now. Just hope he can do ballroom.

Had tickets for the Friday show; the judge brought the house down and after his performance the show really came to life.

I can't imagine at all how they are going to theme that dance for an American Smooth - it'll be interesting for sure!

Yes, choucroute, it looks like tomorrow for their ITT debut:

Ok - Monkseal's write up with photos to view -
Craig starts for the judges saying the dance was “frenetic, frenzied, frantic”, as the autocomplete software in his head goes on the fritz, and then tells Judge Rinder that it looked like he’d had excessive collagen injections. In return Judge Rinder deploys “takes one to know one” blowjob mouth. This is exactly the Algonquin Round Table level of discourse I was hoping for between these two. Masterful. Tess then does the Judge Rinder spitty-shushy thing at Craig and everyone ignores her. Again, bless. Darcey’s next and says that was the wildest surprise she’s ever had. Oksana’s face could not read more "English women…” if it tried.

Len follows, saying that Judge Rinder “puts the boy in flamboyant”. This is Lenese for “you are gay”, in case there are any new people in this evening. Based on the pair of tits Rinder’s got on him, I’d say he more accurately puts the “buoyant” in “flamboyant”, but then I’m not Head Judge am I? Len also says “if entertainment’s a crime, you’re guilty”. It’s not though is it Len? Bruno then yells “THE JURY’S HUNG!” before leaping to his feet so
Len can establish if this is true for himself. I’m telling you, these two, the wrap party, 14 series of raw sexual tension. It’s happening.
The photo of Robert accompanying the "takes one to know one" blowjob mouth is amazing! I really, really hope Monkseal is psychic and this was exactly in Robert's mind.

Anyway it would seem we have Judge and 'dance mouth'

I wonder if Saturday's American Smooth will have a comedy element to it again? I'm thinking it might be Oksana as the maneater leading Robert around a bit, and him wriggling out of her advances.

Plenty of opportunity for facial expressions again then....

He certainly seemed the most well received! Would love to hear your thoughts on what the show is like live.

So Robert and Oksana were on ITT. Observations: Robert seems to really like Oksana and she seemed to me to be the one 'in charge' in their relationship. Robert is funny, self-effacing, sharp and speaks such sense about the process. He made a joke about the "journey" and about the risks in their forthcoming AS. On dropping Oksana: If you break them you have to buy them ...

I hope their dance goes well on Saturday.

Thanks so much for the summary Maggie. I was working late tonight and missed ITT, so came home to watch it on catchup. But my series link wasn't working so today's episode wasn't there and it's not on iPlayer just yet. So your observations are perfectly timed and made me smile!

Lifts in Week 2 seems like an ambitious challenge - shows how strong Robert is as well!

My pleasure but I hope you can catch up with it at some point as it would be nice to hear/read your take. The only little thing that niggled for me was that Robert looked at Oksana but she was not looking back at him sometimes. This has led me to conclude 'she's in charge'. She looked very beautiful I might add and I think Robert's a bit in awe of her.

Oh I found it on YouTube at https://youtu.be/rLj3JdyH5Wk

Robert did seem a bit more subdued than I expected, but I think that was partly because he was wanting to give Oksana the chance to talk too.

The clip of them in rehearsal looks pretty sharp as well - good timing, great synchronisation and some more turns. AND FACIAL EXPRESSIONS!

I agree that it would have been nice for Oksana to interact a bit more with Robert, but I put it down to nerves and the fact that it's her first ITT interview.

Thanks for the link; makes it easier to view and comment. On second viewing there is more eye contact between Robert and Oksana than I thought at first. I'd forgotten the facial expressions! How could I?!? Yes that brief rehearsal snippet looked good. I suspect he is better than we expect and this is why Oksana looks like the cat who got, or is getting, the cream.

Oksana does look so happy with the start they've got off to and how things are going!

And talking of happy .....

I missed ITT last night WIll have to catch up today at some point.

I think is really sensible for Rob to leave her in charge, after all, she is the one who has to teach him to dance, not the other way round, it says a lot about him. I suspect she is far clever than we think, she'll showcase him in the best light and create a routine that cater to his strengths. And to his faces, most obviously.

He seemed very tired to me (and rightly so with hours of training and perhaps a day job, then having to get oneself into the ITT studio). I thought it was sweet the way he kept looking at Oksana--I'd been thinking he might turn out to be a me-me-me kind of showman, but he's definitely not.

The bits of AS they showed looked great!

Although the move doesn't look like it would fit with the Marvin Gaye music which is interesting!

Robert and Oksana's cha-cha was the featured Strictly clip on Gogglebox tonight.

Watching other people's reactions were brilliant - especially the positive comments about the flip at the end! It brought back the OMG WOW! feeling from last Friday evening.

sunshineband I watched Googlebox to and it was fantastic to see people's reaction too!
