Well I know it's a wheat beer but it still tastes 'lagery' so it's hardly as if you're confusing it with a pint of mild or something. It's a bit like if someone described Iron Maiden as death metal, ok they're not they're heavy metal, but it's being a bit picky

It's still a forgiveable mistake whichever way you look at it, plent of laypeople would put in the lager bracket

I'm sorry but I can't agree with this, they're a world apart, if you can't tell the difference I would genuinely question your tastebuds. A totally different taste. I actually know people ("laypeople") who love lager but can't stand wheat beers.

Calm down Jambo. 😀
I'm just bewildered as to how you could think a wheat beer was a lager. It's like thinking Guiness is lager.

I like Mexican lagers: Dos Equis and Negra Modelo are my two go to beers, but I wouldn't so no to Pacifico either.
León Negra Modelo Montejo Negra Modelo Odoul’s Pacifico Victoria You've mentioned two of those, but does anyone have any opinions on the others? I will try all of them, of course, but it's always nice to know where to start! |

Ooh, that's interesting. I'm going to Mexico in March and the hotel serves ten beers (lagers?) of which I think the following are Mexican:

I don't know the others. Funny thing about Mexican beer. It has German antecedents as at one point in the 1800's it was a go to place for people upping sticks and leaving the old country. A lot of brewers started doing what they knew best and founded the indusrtry. |

Oh god, I'm not going near the O'Doul's in that case! But I will happily try all the others, and if I remember I will report back.
Interesting comment about the German influence. I've read that Mexican beer is much better than in most of Latin America, so perhaps that's why? In any event, I can't wait; I'm going to spend the next six months getting stupidly excited. |

Pilsner Urquell
Bubweiser Budvar Staropromen Kozel Jupiler (just to show I do like the cheap stuff as well) By far and away the worst was draft Ayinerbrau sold in Jennings pubs when I was an underage drinker in the early '80s. I can still picture the pump with a Germanic chap who looked like a kiddy didler holding a complicated flip top beer stein. In fact a quick Google shows he is still around and working for Sam Smith's now! If you had asked me for my favourite lager when I was dodging the Ayingerbrau it would have been the world champion Slalom D. |

Carlsberg Export, as near as you can get to a refreshing crisp pilsner taste, without the price tag.

No votes for Estrella? I like it. But then I quite like Sol and Corona too so maybe I just like icy cold stuff that reminds me of being on my hols!

When we were in Spain a few weeks ago almost everywhere had Cruzcampo which I'd never come across before. A few places had Estrella but Cruzcampo seemed to have taken over. It was a pretty bog standard lager.
I struggled in Spain to find anything that amazing. I did find a dark lager and some wheat beers in the supermarket but other than that I found San Miguel was about as good as it got. |

There's any number of great German lagers, but this would be the absolute best for me.

There is Estrella Damm and Estrella Galicia, both completely different beers from different breweries!

I struck it lucky finding a little bar that did local craft stuff. Malaqa, Guineu and Califa seemed to be pretty decent breweries. Other than that I was on the standard lager, although in 36 degree heat it was pretty nice and refreshing!

Pilsner Urquell
Tsingtao Estrella Damm Keo Korev I'm a big fan of Urquell. Quite a malty Pilsner - easy drinking. As you can see, no tinned Carling/Fosters crap in that list. Proper crafted lagers there. |
