I am sure SOC has edited and improved upon those storylines to his own taste.

Even DS said his work starts Mid September. Its now just happening a week earlier than expected.

Scripts aren't the start of an episode. Storylines are decided months before that, and as said above, they film around 2 months in advance, with ample time before that for scripts to be completed.

When Kathleen Hutchison and Bryan Kirkwood took over EE they had loads of scripts redone.

Sharon Marshall said this was his work.... who to believe? her or people on a forum who think the know better?

Say what you like about the episode, I'm enjoying the fact that this is probably the first time since Who Killed Lucy that pretty much the whole cast are involved in an interconnected set of stories. No block storytelling going on.

Pauls death kicked it all off and obviously involved the Mitchells and Cokers. Mitchells are now connected to the Foxes-Hubbards via Denise's pregnancy... Kazemis are involved cos Kush thought he was the dad....Fowlers and Beales involved because of Mark Jr, who's tied into the Mitchells... And so the circle starts again.

Only the Carters aren't involved, but that's no big loss in this instance.

Maybe SOC couldn't think up a way to connect them DTC probably would have had Lee and Mick going off to find the thugs with Grant!

I wonder if Shirley will make an appearance or if they will forget she and Ben used to be close. So thinking about it the link is there..

Yes it's true that SOC will have overseen directing, editing and was able to start putting tiny little bits of his own work into the episode. But the majority of scripting and storylining will have been signed off (not by DTC) but by the idiots Lamb and Batten who have been in charge of the last couple of weeks of the show. I don't expect we'll truly see the full extent of SOC's work until late September/Early October, just small sprinkles of what he's hoping to do. Not having a go at you by the way.

Well said. SOC has been on the credits for 2 months now and it was confirmed on This Morning last week this is his first official episode.

The stories may still be DTC's, but the script, direction and everything else is all down to SOC. We won't see Sean's stories start until Christmas, if not 2017.

Grant's return was filmed in June, look at his twitter. Scripts go through several drafts and they storyline in detail six months in advance. Scripts would have been commissioned in March. Michael Cashman also thanked DTC on Twitter for his cameo which will air this week. SOC will have been there when it was filmed and involved in post production. That's it. It'll be a while before we truly see his work onscreen imo.

100% this. I think the only people wanting to credit SOC today are simply just trying to make out that EE is all good again and its because of SOC. The reality is if you didn't know who was credited today you cannot honestly make any distinction between last week and today, barring what you want to believe it to be.

People are pre judging this and were ready to credit it as soon as the episode aired, that tells you all you need to know really.

Are we sure this was actually SOC first epsiode?

People say Sharon Marshall said it on This Morning, but when? She last appeared last Tuesday and didn't mention it...

It must have happened because they were discussing it over on Walford Web a few days ago too.

Like Lou said, DS do confirm themselves in an article that his work starts filtering through from middle of September so give or take a week and we are there.

Phil keeps forgetting that he isn't parenting Ben alone anymore. However, they do get involved. One of the magazines had pictures of them round at Phil's.

Who is SOC ??????

Keep in mind, this might be his 'first' episode as such but he still honouring DTC work, his own vision/change probably won't even be visible for weeks, maybe even months.

Try not to write him off just yet.

Agreed. Felt sorry for RK having to regurgitate lines that I'm almost sure I heard eight years ago in Taken.

This. It's not as simple as one producer leaving on a Friday, another turning up on a Monday, and bam, all the stuff from there on in is down to them.

DTC was on the One Show in February. He mentioned that they were storylining July/August, and they'd got vague tent poles in place for Christmas. SOC didn't start at EastEnders until mid-June (which is when this was being filmed.), so while he will have signed off the filming/editing etc, you won't see his influence on the scripts for a while, and stories, longer than that.

Incidentally, he's still credited as the Editor of The Archers for the next few weeks.

I don't think it did happen, someone's completely made that up (in regards to Sharon Marshall).

But you're right, SOC's very early work and slight alterations will be playing around this month at some point.

People shouldn't be fooled into believing that this is definately his first episode though, based on a lie regarding This Morning.

Is it a lie? I didn't know that.

I only asked what day it was as it sounded interesting that Sharon Marshall was talking about the new producer. I was going to catch up online.
