Quite liked it - definitely glad to see it back.

Although I thought the episode was a bit disjointed. I appreciate that there are generally 2 or 3 stories being played out at one time, but it was fairly obvious that all of the actors weren't available at the same time for this episode.

The Jack/Victor/Isa storyline was very separate from the other scenes, and the last scene when they were all in The Clansman 'together' was obviously filmed at different times. There were no shots of them all together, and it looked fairly obvious (to me, anyway) that the Jack/Victor/Isa dialogue/reactions were just slotted in.

The only bit I can think of that did mix the storylines together is when Jack saw Winston, his brother, Eric and Tam outside. Ford Kiernan must have been available that day!

Hoping tonight's episode will be a nice tribute to Jake D'Arcy (Pete the Jakey).

Just watched, and a good send off for Pete the Jakey, whose presence will be missed in Craiglang.

Best episode since series 3 for me.

I think I enjoyed tonight's episode even more than last week's!

Too many great moments though I especially loved Winston
Spoiler
falling over at the funeral
and Jack + Victor
Spoiler
trashing Tam's kitchen
.

Nice to see Frances and Mark the angry quizmaster too. Methadone Mick seems promising as a new character, apparently there's more of him to come.

Great Breaking Bad reference at the end there too.

Nice send off for Jake/Pete. Maybe i wasn't in the mood for it because although i found it funny at times i can't agree with all the comments on forums/twitter saying it was one of the best ever. Will need to rewatch it sometime.

Briefly saw Jake D'Arcys name on the wall in the Clansman too which was nice. And did Tam say it was their 2nd anniversary?

The anniversary thing did bug me a bit as I remember Frances saying to Isa in Recipe that they'd been together for 2 years.

However I'd like to think that back then, they had been together as a couple for 2 years (1 year dating, 1 year married) and that tonight's mention was for their actual wedding anniversary.

Always feels hard to nitpick a programme you enjoy so much

There was also a reference to classic war film The Great Escape when Winston crossed the room to pick up a pin that he had obviously placed there before

Thought tonight was an improvement on last weeks, which I enjoyed, though they still aren't up there with the best yet.

Killed myself laughing at Jack holding up his bus pass after bursting into Tam's kitchen. That I can definitely see being a classic Still Game moments in years to come.

I want to know if Tam & Frances are still elderly parents, or if the whole last episode of the original run of Still Game is to be ignorned - ie Frances and Tam are 60+ year old parents and Jack briefly dies on the operating table undergoing a heart bypass?

I'm assuming that both of these have been dropped. Overall (if they have been dropped) its probably for the best as the elderly parent jokes would have worn thin every quickly.

Also if we are lucky enough to get a series 8 then what is the betting that it will return to having a UK wide premier on BBC2 midweek with a Friday 10.35pm repeat on BBC 1 Scotland.

I only wonder as the ratings for the first episode on BBC UK wide was only 3.2 million. Now for a BBC 2 UK wide broadcast of a sitcom this would be a very successful number, however for primetime BBC 1 UK wide it seems a bit disappointing, given that the likes of 'Would I Lie to You' in a similar Friday prime-time slot is usually around 3.9-4.1 million viewers.

I think the 2 year anniversary line was deliberate to let people know this is set in the floating timeline the rest of the series were, Not years later

I'd be disappointed if they shelved that subplot with Tam/Frances especially given that for a brief time they were the oldest parents in Britain. Plus they got to be on (lovely) Lorraine But it wouldn't surprise me if it was left out in the next four episodes.

Yeah that's what I think has happened with the timeline.

Episode #4 apparently sees Jack & Victor give relationship advice to Fergie (the ned) as he's about to celebrate his one year anniversary with Sinead (I remember they got married at end of Series 5).

It did climb for episode 2 though, only up to 3.4 but if it slowly builds throughout the series BBC might consider it worth another chance in the prime time slot.

Also living in Scotland you couldn't escape the fact Still Game was returning, BBC had loads of little trailers and the did a promo tour, as far as the rest of the UK are concerned I saw one of them on Lorraine and that is it, surely they should be hitting the pavement down south and promoting the show more?

When Kiernan & Hemphill announced they were doing this series, I'm sure they said they'd be doing a new series every two years and two Christmas and New Year specials in between. They said writing the show takes up too much of their time to do a new series every year.

The theme tune is called 'Cuban Boy', composed around 1960 by a once famous orchestra leader, Frank Chacksfield. It was played constantly on radio fifty years ago. Good to hear it again - but prefer it without the thumping bass drum which is probably the BBC's idea of 'modernisation'.

Actually I met the composer on a number of occasions. He published (and recorded) a composition of mine.

I like others found this show by accident some years ago, it is rather good and the writers pitch the comedy/nastiness just right.

Yeah I found it by accident also one summer. I think it was on bbc2??

Anyway I love it and gals it's back for a new series. I think both episodes have been great so far. The scene in Tams kitchen last night was brilliant

I guess it's probably best to have a years rest in-between, so it doesn't get stale and becomes more of an event! They'll be busy with the tour next year anyway. I wonder if that'll become a bi-annual thing? Series one year, tour the next.

This series so far is definitely a step up in quality from series 4-6. The time off did it the world of good.

I was waiting for Jack or Victor to point that out!

Overall, it was maybe not one of the best ever but it was better than last week's and a return to form.

We're at the halfway stage after tonight's episode.

Kevin Whately (Auf Wiedersehen Pet, Lewis) guest stars in this week's installment.
