It gets worse. What an absolute load of crap.
Oh, we get it, BBC. Because God forbid you are subtle and deep with the message you're trying to get across. God forbid you give your message over as part of an interesting, emotional story, where Ben confronts the monsters who murdered his lover and Grant gets to know his son. It's like watching an modern day episode of Doctor Who - it can't just have a good message - it's got to hit you over and over and over again with it, to the point where you end up more annoyed than informed. And they wonder why I think a female Doctor would end up being awful...
This whole entire plot has been centred around two things - desperately telling us that thugs who beat up gay people for being different are actually little cowards deep down, and setting up a contrived situation so Grant gets to team up with his secret son. This could have been so good, you know. But instead of actually putting some thought into this, they turned these murderous thugs into a poor man's One Direction. Imagine, if you will, if these guys had actually been violent, awful criminals. Actually physically imposing men. They stand there, ready to do Ben in, and Ben laughs in their faces, recognising them for the cowards they are. Imagine how much more powerful this would have been.
But nope. Because we simply have to make sure we get it, these guys are a bunch of incompetent idiots from the start. So, did everyone get it? People who target others for being different are pathetic little cowards. Anyone nod off.
My God, this was pants. Not just the core issues and how they were handled, but all of it. It's so bad, I was literally sat here thinking why?? Just... why?? So let's boil it down.
Why in GOD'S name didn't they just sodding call the Police in the first sodding place? The murderer's kidnapping the main witness against them... urm, call me dumb, but that's a prosecution field day!! I mean, do EE actually think we are that stupid?
Why the hell didn't Jack call the Police?? Or if he's so worried, why didn't he go as well for back up? Grant and Jack vs four losers that even the writers know are awful villains.... come on, it's an easy win. And a special mention for the "Mitchell Code." God, I hate Ronnie when she sprouts crap like this.
Why the hell did Jay and Ben get overpowered so easily? Oh, I get it... Ben couldn't just leave Jay alone with the scary One Direction band. But I mean... it could have been directed better than that, surely? The camera was so shaky I thought I was watching a Bourne movie.
Why did they just leave Jay? And why didn't he just scarper out of the area? What is it on... a tiny Island in the North Sea? Azkaban?
Why in all the contrived piles of contrived pairings did Mark feel the need to grab a bat and follow Grant??? What possible reason did he have for doing this? He doesn't know any of them from Adam! This might have worked if Mark had been around longer than five minutes, and not hastily shoved in here just so DTC can do the ultimate baby plot resolution with Ross Kemp (I seriously think the guy has an unhealthy obsession with these storylines) whilst the guy is available. I recon the writers and producers who first envisioned Grant's secret son by Michelle, a gem of storyline that could rear it's head at literally any point in the next ever, must be hanging their heads in shame at this farce.
We don't know anything about Mark. So all we see when he jumps in this car here is weak, utterly ill thought out writing. In short, a massive pile of crap.
And we still have to endure more Denise looking constipated about Phil being a babydaddy. I've said all I've got to say about this.
What a joke.
