There are so many songs in the Eighties that were great songs, but at the time were not very popular

These are my songs that i feel are seriously underrated

Three amazing pieces of music, probably works of genius, but are they underrated?

I think because a song wasn't popular in sales terms at the time of release doesn't actually mean that it is underrated. 'Atmosphere' regularly finished top of John Peel's festive 50 list in the 1980s which indicates that it was always recognised by the discerning listeners.

However, if this is a reaffirmation of how original and creative Joy Division, Martin Hannett and Tony Wilson were then great.

Anything by the Distractions. No hit singles and their only album - Nobody's Perfect - was full of great pop songs but did anyone buy it? Here's the gorgeously melancholic Looking For A Ghost: https://youtu.be/g2DoiRdtUGg

This thread is a joke? Most of the songs listed here were worldwide hits. As for the Def Leppard song the album it's from only sold a minimum of 25 million copies, very underrated my arse
Talk Talk have always been highly rated by critics and fans

To me, "(How Do I Like To Dance) Slowly", "Burned Like A Rocket" and "Board Walk Angel" from my late beautiful precious Billy Joe Royal most definitely should have gone all the way to #1.

God bless you and his family always!!!

Depends which era.. Spirit Of Eden is one of the most beautifully ethereal and underrated albums, a world away from their synth pop beginnings. (And the critics hated it LINK)

well its true that threads like this cannot be taken too seriously, after all, who decides if somebody is 'underrated'? nominations usually result in 'fans of' nominating a track they think should have been a bigger hit...

i reckon talk talk were underrated, because i dont think they got/get (retrospectively) the credit they deserved for some fabulous tracks... every single for eg was creditable.

Oh, nice choice. In fact the whole album Behind Closed Doors is class (as is Glory Boys before it). Unfortunately I think SA suffered from being seen as mod revival fluff (whilst The Jam ruled the world, well the one I lived in anyway). Ian Page is also a great singer.

I'm not very good at coming up with songs but one that springs to mind is Robert Plant - Big Log.
