Perhaps you should have read the thread title as neither of those are underrated, especially 'Cars'.

Was just coming on here to post the same

Also OMD - Souvenir
Agreed about Souvenir, my favourite OMD song from arguably the best year of music in the '80's, 1981, but that's for another thread......

It was a big hit at the time, but Mary's Prayer by Danny Wilson is quite underrated.

China Crisis - Christian is another one imo.

I apologize. I'll try to be more vigilant in the future.

Not an 80s song either.

In The Evening - Sheryl Lee Ralph. Sure, the remix in the 90's got it the respect it deserved, but still massively underrated when first released.

Correct.

I used to think it was early 80s but later found out it was released in 79.

Not sure if this qualifies as it did quite well when released by largely forgotten

"Drowning in Berlin" By The Mobiles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-w0WulIq4tw

"Cry Boy Cry" by Blue Zoo, one of my favourite 80's songs which deserved to go much higher in the charts than it did:-

Anything by Goodbye Mr Mackenzie was overlooked in my opinion, good call!

I would also class The Lover Speaks No More I Loves you

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdNOCj_35Po

and Pandoras Box Its all Coming Back To Me Now

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Ssqr4eKryw

as two of the many overlooked eighties nearly hits that became the proper hits they deserved to be albeit by different artists a decade or so later

I highly recommend this No7 hit from early in 1983 which is retro but still has 80's synth too. Fab track.

Maisonettes with Heartache Avenue - https://youtu.be/h-t66drtfWs

I bet a few on here have forgotten it. Certainly underrated for sure.

A few probably remember it being sampled for an awful record a few years back. It was one of the laziest bits of sampling I've ever heard, and was pretty much the whole song used.

I think they were a Birmingham Band, if not certainly from nearby. I saw them at Birmingham's "Powerhouse"

Reminds me of one of Lol Mason's earlier song "5 7 0 5" from Cityboy but I think that was late 70's

Yes, love this Scritti track.

Gosh haven't heard "Private life" since those days, completely forgot about it. Thanks for the link.

I always liked:

Why can't I have you - The Cars, 1984.

(not sure if it was underrated though in UK as I heard it a few years later than the release).

I can remember driving to Withernsea in the late 1980s with their album blaring out on cassette!

Always liked Born Again and Ideal World too.

I don't think you hear much about the Kane Gang these days but they had (at least 3 great songs)

Small Town Creed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7jBmZC1KO0

Closest Thing to Heaven https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LI4qRkBlv3c

& Respect Yourself https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAjZgHVs1pU

All 3 I have on my main playlist

If you love that, investigate Love and Money if you haven't already, sounds pretty similar to my ears
