Welcome to the progressive comedy world of the nationalists, and endorsed by feminists such as Elane C. Smith and described as hilarious by MP Joanna Cherry.

What's next going to have them splitting their sides? A song in which gay male political opponents as described as p******s.

People posting on the internet have had their collar felt for similar behaviour, so I wonder if the cops would be interested in this?”

Would that be the same Joanna Cherry who was on QT the other night? I noticed she said that leaving the EU would take years to unravel. Contrast that with her party leaders insistence that we could leave the UK in 18 months.

Listened to the 'song'. It's absolutely rank. No talent no marks looking for a bit of shock reaction.

I saw herself n QT as well says no this, Brexit is going to mean economic hell but Somehow Scotland Seperatist from an even more entwined state will be simplicity.

As for that rap, it sums up the lower IQ side of nationalism for me.

More of the nice, fluffy, friendly civil naionalism in action it seems.

Sums up your poor critique. What a daft thing to say because of a silly bit of not to be taken seriously performance parody.

Odd that the SNP were keen to point out it wasn't a party event.

Joanna Cherry MP writes a response to Tory MSP Annie Wells regarding the (imo rubbish) comedy sketch -

Interesting we have not heard from Ruth Davidson herself. Perhaps someone reminded her that she once described herself and Angela Eagle as "...two short-haired, flat shoes, shovel-faced lesbians with northern accents."

Not seeing what an obvious piece of self depreciation has in common with an a crass and offensive "comedy" sketch at a political rally?

So its OK for Ruth Davidson to poke fun at Angela Eagle's sexuality but not a lesbian group doing a parody on lesbianism and enjoyed by a lesbian?

Any excuse for faux outrage for some. Why do I suspect that if this had been an event that could be linked to Labour or the Tories that there would not have been a peep about it.

I wouldn't say the SNP are left wing (except if contrasted with something like UKIP).

The Yes umbrella is a social movement with a single common thread that Scotland should decide it's own affairs as it sees fit.

The Torys benefited from Labour's disarray and the D'Hondt voting system.

Its also the wealthier areas that recorded the biggest swings and gains for the Tories in May.”

I think she might have been poking fun at herself by calling herself a lesbian, and not a Dyke.

There is a degree of difference in the two actions, one which you seem to faill to recognise in your bias.

I'm sure you don't agree that the term dyke is far more offensive than the accepted term of lesbian, one is clearly derogatory while the other is descriptive. However, don't let that minor detail stop you from defending anything SNP

Something we agree on, the SNP ain't left wing.

BTW, why do your quotes not function properly? What medium are you using that puts your reply in front of the quoted text?

I just knew the usual DS Yoons would be on here with their one-eyed faux outrage. The band & song - if that is what you call them - were rubbish, & unfunny anyway.

Not to mention that they weren't at an SNP event, aren't members of the SNP and weren't representing the SNP, but it's still the fault of the SNP.

dyke
A word used to refer to Lesbians. Originally meant to be a slur, it has been "reclaimed" by many Lesbians who might use it to identify themselves of other Lesbians. It is considered rude to use the word "Dyke" unless you self-identify as one.

Seems like a lesbian version of the N word. As has already been said the people using it in this case were lesbian.

The only quibble is whether Davison, who wears trouser suits, short hair, wears more muted colours, displays a kind of tomboyish predilection for more masculine pursuits and has an aggressive personality might mistakenly described as dykey, that y on the end implying she's dykelike rather than actually a dyke. A walks like a duck kind of thing.

Given she's publicly made fun of a political rival sharing her sexual orientation without public outrage there's just a hint of opportunism here.

Given that the SNP would have jumped all over this if the Tories had done the same I find the defene here quite laughable.

Still, to use another phrase from the SNP lesbian book, I am enjoying your mansplaining of it

I think the issue is because Joanna Cherry MP tweeted her like of the show, but at the same time had signed up to Stonewall's NoByStanders campaign.

By signing this it confirmed "I will never be a bystander to hateful language and abuse. If I hear it, I will call it out and report it, and if I can, I will stop it."

What do Stonewall say about the word dyke... "Homophobic language also refers to terms of abuse specifically directed at gay people. This includes words such as ‘queer’, ‘poof’, ‘fag’, ‘faggot’, ‘dyke’ and ‘lezza’."

I'm sure your winning friends to your cause by the use of the derogatory term there.

It's not faux outrage, it's observation of the facts and deciding whether or not a senior SNP figure supporting and laughing at them is appropriate. At the end of the day it does damage to the party in the eyes of the normal public.

To take your line, the usual DS Cybernats don't care about anything but labelling their fellow Scots and being as divisive as possible. I'm sure you enjoy labelling folk yourself though, I do seem to find ultra Nats so tediously intolerant.

The question here is bigger than the usual suspects make out. Should any so called queer culture be reclaiming words like Dyke. I winced when I heard it because I didn't realise it was actually a queer performance however while the fact the word was being reclaimed I don't know that it should. Some gay people reclaim the word poof and I also cannot stand that. There's another queer/feminist group in Glasgow called TYCI which reclaims the C word, tuck your ....... In. Do we really need to be doing this? I'm sure there are many more knowledgable on this than I am but I think it's a grey area and the reality Davidson could have been offended by this depending on how she responds to that word. My thinking is that in context she most likely wouldn't but it was questionable and it was cringey.

The Tories made direct gains from the SNP many constituencies in the North and East of Scotland had double digit swings direct from SNP to the Tories, including those of John Swinney, Roseanna Cunningham and Alex Salmonds old seat. I really do think a lot of SNP supporters are in total denial about the state of Scottish politics.
